[Implemented] Ogre update

Got an idea for enhancing PureBasic? New command(s) you'd like to see?

[Implemented] Ogre update

Post by JoRo »

Are there plans for upgrading the ogre?
I need a 3D engine for 16 bit heightmaps. The new ogre can handle this.
I have surched arround, but I did not found so far one, only one, 3D enigne with a wrapper for PB, which can handle more than 8 bit heightresolution.
Some of the basic engines can, like irrlicht, with a patch for such terrains, but of course, this patch is not wrapped.
I have no problem to pay for such a engine, 250 € were no problem, but the hell, that does not help. There is nothing to purchase, which works together with PB.
So, at time I am in a dead end. And 8 bit is the past in game developement. And also, a terrain generator in 2D is past. I have the chance to get the head up in my market, but not without 3D in the next version, which is planned for the first half of 2007.

I have just done it. Dreammotion3D has also no more than 8 bit terrains, but after I ask, they said, they will implement 32 bit heightresolution for terrains. Only problem, all in france. Well, that is not so dramatic. The commands are all english.
I will now begin, to implement the basic functionality and see, how far I get with it.

This has been promised for a couple of years, I wouldn't hold my breath with expectation that it will actually happen in your life-time.

Sad, but true.

New OGRE updates are DX9 only dependent, so if we ever want to see a quality jump here, Fred & Team will have to recode the entire purebasic 2d libraries to DX9 and then implement the new OGRE version.

BTW RoJo

I really liked you GeoControl program :) nice work you done there!

There have been some really great 3D engine efforts by various community members. Whether its a new engine, or wrapping an existing one, there has been some really good stuff. It would be nice if these folks could consolidate their efforts and work on one really good 3D solution for the community.
