Okay, now i have erased DX with the programme from the site.

Installed DX 7.0 - same problem.
Installed DX 8.0 - same problem.
Installed DX 8.1 - same problem.

I am about to format my HDD and reinstall Windoom. Is there any other possibility?

Yup, it`s called Linux

Seriously though, when Windows gives you this much trouble, a clean reinstall is the easiest way. Good luck and remember to back up anything you can`t afford to loose (especially ISP login details)

As mentioned: I will soon have Mandrake. And then I tell my computer to do and my computer does no longer tell ME what do to (push the reset button*rofl*)

But now, after PB for Linux is released, i wonder if its worth it to re-install windows now...

However, thank you all very much for the help... I'd bet that no online support would give me such great help...

Now i am really fed up. Re-installed Windoze, SAME PROBLEM. Now i know that it is NOT my fault. Great!

Ok, might just found it...

I recently had a problem using my new XP2000+ cpu on a old, but capable Motherboard.

According to the mb specs this CPU should work fine, but has i later found out, it was more the time i was installing windows than it worked.

Your motherboard is not very brilliant (do a google search and read the title of the very first hit!)

What could be happening is that your motherboard does not output has much power has the gfx board needs, or the FSB of the gfx board gets hyper jammed, cause the mother board cant i/o faster making fatal errors under DX... (try making 200 cars pass on a 2 way street at the same time and you get what i mean)

This leaves you with 2 options, buy a more recente motherboard or go back to your old gfx board...

I myself i'm getting an ASUS mb to solve the problems and finally use my XP2000+ in all it's glory!

Merendo:
A easy way to test your system is with a Knoppix CD.
It install Linux from CD on memory, leaving untouched the Windows installation.

I'm using it with no troubles, with WinXP installed.

this should belong in off-topic, i guess... but anyway...

1 take out any additional cards not necessary
2 put back in the graphic card you know worked (or even onboard)
3 insert only 1 sim
4 set bios to defaults
5 check your memory using goldmem or something similar
6 try any other sims as wel
7 now install an os (either win98 or xp)
8. update / patch os
9 install proper drivers including directx (9)
10 now is a good moment to ghost your machine

11 use sisoft sandra and passmark to do some stress testing
12 use 3dmark2001 for some additonal stress testing (let it run)
13 set screen back to standard vga
14 remove all drivers
15 now put in your new graphics card and go back to 9

note: sometimes old driver remains can screw up the working of your new card, but mostly this happens when you don't go back to vga before swapping the gfx card, so: a. back to vga, shut down, take out the old card, put in the new one, reboot

it's all obvious, but often several things are done 'in a rush' because 'oh, that can't be the problem' thinking...

you know what has caused most problems for me? power supplies, either simply inadequate, or (brr) a small damage on the insulation on one of the 12v wires (!)

also, final note, check temperature

Hi, with Knoppix - does it recognise and use the HD for storage? Or how do you save stuff, etc?

Stupid Q perhaps, but I have no idea of how it works.

I attempted to DL the Knoppix ISO but lost connection at 699mb! And no resume!

So haven't got it yet (@700mb it is a chunk of bandwidth - next month)
