question for PowerBasic users?

Post by Tenaja »

I have noticed a wave of PowerBasic users coming over to the Pure side. :D

Anyone care to share why? I presume it is due to Bob's passing... did his team not continue support?

I think PowerBasic is only for Windows and 32 bit. PureBasic is for Windows, Mac, Linux can compile to 32 and 64 bit and
the pricing can't be beat.

PureBasic is the overall winner in my opionion. :D

With PB you can make practically any thing. Control over API, screens 2D and 3D, windows, printers, camera, mouse, keyboard, com (rs232), and more.. PB team gives a great service, new versions, and low price to buy all in one mac, win, linux and amiga. ¡inmejorable! :D
And the most important, the great community of PB users in the forum, is always ready to help..

From what I can see a lot of Powerbasic coders, including very loyal ones, are nervous about future development of the product since the untimely passing of Bob Zale. There has long been some debate as to whether several team members actually existed or were actually personas of Bob. It's an important consideration because if they were all Bob then there's nobody left. Given the massive lead Purebasic has over Powerbasic in features and capabilities, all it takes is for Powerbasic users to start making comparisons and bam, as Emeril says, we've got converts.

This was my assumption, as well, but we have not heard from any actual converts.

Hi, I thing you got one now. (new user from today) But, I got some problem with some ( PB ).
This is very simple the PowerBasic is call (PB) and the Pure Basic is call (PB).

The real reason for me is the ( Mac ) I try to see what is the real difference
and the work ("evaluation") to reprogram the PowerBasic program to
Pure Basic. The GUI seem more powerful in the PowerBasic and we
can use the program in the 64k plus the ( THREAD create Rend (CB.HNDL) to xx))
It is the way we can create the thead to run(program or sub running in the same time).

The fact I have no idea about Pure Basic I can't make a real comparason.
I just hope we can use thread like PowerBasic and manipulate easy the array[].

16 years with PowerBasic and the visual designer.

So far a like PureBasic.

Welcome aboard aucrobert.

PureBasic is a joy to use and you will soon find yourself being productive. No doubt there will be a few challenges along the way if you convert your PowerBasic code. Of course, first port of call is the Help, which is indeed pretty good. When you are stuck on something, search this forum (Google Search with the Site Search add-on is best). If you are still stuck, post a description and a code snippet and someone will do their best to help you. We are a very friendly bunch here - sometimes English may not be the native language of the person trying to help you, so don't be offended if a response or two sound harsh - for harsh, read practical :D

If it sounds simple, you have not grasped the complexity.

I had no idea Bob was the author of Borland's TurboBasic for DOS. That era still feels like yesterday..

Having used software written by people who've passed really makes you feel old. :(
