Judging from your posting style, your industry must be spamming.

Why, cause I've posted in most of the latest threads in this section? By the way "spamming"=uninvited-solicitation. Making relevant posts, each after at least one response and all 1-~5 per thread, isn't "spamming". If you don't like alternative opinions, lurking a general section of a public forum probably isn't the wisest choice of activities.. Especially if you want to post illogical and inconsistent "faqs" based on education and experience you don't have..

I'm pretty sure you're only grabbing for hater-straws cause of me pointing out the idiocy in some other threads.. Like the one where people suggested nuclear warheads and EMPs could 'take out America'. With the most powerful of any having a destructive radius of twenty miles, and the target, America, being a three-million square mile continent with segregated water and electrical grids, on top of the second best defense system in the world..

Now people are suggesting you can cover monthly living expenses of $800+ USD consistently, just being a freelance developer. I've done this from the kitchen table in a Russian ghetto and from a comfy bedroom in America, but it was only by exceptional means and networking with people who had money to waste, mostly American venture capitalists with stupid ideas, and me alone working with no sleep for days.. Only speaking as someone who has actually done it and knows the actual economics of self-employment in multiple industries..

Regarding the other hate-mongering words you shared I'll let others comment on them if they have the time. I think you're itching for a fight but I am not sure why. If any of your posts have merit they should be able to stand on their own without a bunch of name calling and spitting.

Hi,

I am programming for about 35 years now.
For a long time I wrote software and builded hardware for industrial machinery as a freelance.
All mostly in assembler language (oem applications, no PC stuff).
I could just live with what i urned.
Since the crisis started back in 2008 I lost all my industrial clients, no investments anymore and a lot of bankrupts.

I was thinking of writing some software, but stuff for 5 euros a peace is not livable.
I had to sell 1000's of it to live of it.
So, it must be a big expensive program.

In the past, I used 3 different CAD/CAM/CNC programs to develop the mechanical parts of these industrial machines.
So, 4 years ago, i had the idea to combine all these 3 (very expensive) CAD/CAM/CNC software in 1 good working and integrated program.
Today, I have no more money, I have a lot of debts, I lost my wife, my house ...
And my program is not ready to be sold out there ... still adding stuff and debugging.
How bigger the program how harder and complexer the debugging time.
Hire someone to push the development, is to expensive ...

And if tomorrow the bank stops my credit (at 11% of interest ) i lose it all.

Conclusion :
Or I stop all software developments, and lose it all (all that time and money for nothing), and make a restart.
Or I work till end of development ... and try to urn some euros with it ??

If so,
I can first pay the bank, pay all my debts and interests back, and then I (yes I) can urn some money ??

So :
NO, don't do it if you do not have a rich father who supports you.

We are not the only ones, a lot (almost all) my self-employed friends (entrepreneurs) are stopped or are bankrupt.
And yes life is ups and downs, but the last years, it is going fast, very fast.
I am not giving up for now ... I have a beautiful little daughter to work for.

I actually know why those people couldn't manage a business in it. You're competing with people who do two-week to one month contracts for hundreds of US dollars, at most. Mostly in Arab nations and India. Big commercial entities go to Russian, European, and Asian sourcing firms because of the cost efficiency. Even AAA game companies are doing this, mostly in Russia.

It helps to pay attention to trends in the market of the industry you depend on for a living.. When I do contracts now I have to do five to make what I did for one up to the early two-thousands.

Even AAA game companies are doing this, mostly in Russia.

Assuming this is really happening on a mass scale; Having played Russian games here and there, I can completely understand why most AAA these days are buggy pieces of shit.

Of course I still blame the sweat shop that is Electronic Arts. Why the hell people would want to work under those conditions for a product they love & believe in, yet probably don't even have the down-time to enjoy is beyond me.

I am becomming a big fan of Kickstarter and crowd-funding because of the sorry state of the games industry. I backed a game for my first time ever, but more because I believe in the studio that is developing it based on their previous products I enjoyed. Still, as an independent company, I would rather give my money to them directly.
