Re: US Navy Tests Solid State Laser Gun
I saw a video on BBC of a supposed Raytheon test video, of an anti-aicraft laser shooting down a UAV

Re: US Navy Tests Solid State Laser Gun
Yesterday I made a weapon which can fire mortal lightning balls at great speeds!
Beat that!

I like logic, hence I dislike humans but love computers.

Re: US Navy Tests Solid State Laser Gun
Mortal lightning bolts...? Does that mean they can die?
Re: US Navy Tests Solid State Laser Gun
Hi - Blake of Scotland Yard did this back in 1937 - until the Scorpion got in the way.

I've got Great Balls Of Fire! Beat that!

Re: US Navy Tests Solid State Laser Gun
A quick visit to your local doctor who will give you a course of penicillin should beat that.Foz wrote:I've got Great Balls Of Fire! Beat that!
Expect though your doctor will probably read the riot act to you about being careful where you put things, suggesting maybe you would be better to just ..... well...... 'beat it' ......

I have a feeling this technology is useless, like maglev instead of plain old wheels on trains..
Isn't it very sensitive to athmosferic conditions like fog or rain also?

I wouldn't call maglev trains useless

Re: US Navy Tests Solid State Laser Gun
? They solve two non-existing problems in a very expensive way. One, modern train wheelsI wouldn't call maglev trains useless
can sustain the same speed at a much lower cost, two, energy loss at high speed is due to
aerodynamics, not the wheels.
Same thing with laser weapons. They need an expensive, heavy energy source that can at
best deliver a fraction of the energy military grade explosives can deliver at a MUCH lower
cost, weight and simplicity.
And, a laser cannot hurt a reflective, spinning ballistic missile, for example..
I think these laser programs is just a means for the military industry to make money from
stupid taxpayers.

Wait a minute here?
I have to agree with the socialist, utopiomania
Though his concern for the taxpayers is hard to believe.

The nice thing about standards is there are so many to choose from. ~ Andrew Tanenbaum

Just means it will hit the missile and melt it and another object at once!utopiomania wrote:? They solve two non-existing problems in a very expensive way. One, modern train wheelsI wouldn't call maglev trains useless

Also, we've had super hot and powerful lasers for decades now.
