No, he isn't because he is mixing up two things. Reality and exaggeration. Using the term "great loss" IS exaggeration and completely inappropriate for this kind of topic.

And don't worry about my English, I perfected it in written and spoken form in over 20 years of practice ...

Anyway, I'm for closing as well :?

I don't think this is an inappropriate topic title at all. I don't feel it as an exaggeration either. SRod was(is) a very helpful, insightful, and generous member of the forum, always assisting with and providing knowledge to everyone in the community. I am certain you've received some kind of assistance from him in some fashion or another. With him no longer participating in the forum, some knowledge and idea's may be delayed late or never at all.
This is the reason why the title is in no way inappropriate.

Oh dear... 2012 is coming up, and Srod is leaving... the force is no longer with PureBasic, our language is dying, the world is coming to an end!

Are we exxagerating a little? Perhaps just a little?!? Come on! You think anyone's departure is the end of the world! Well, for them, perhaps, but the rest will live on! If I read those points I think some of us should stay away from very high places without rails and not drive, pilot or otherwise control any devices that require the absence of momentary and temporary distraction.

Look, either you'll have to live with it, find a rock to crawl under, become a Jedi master and step in his shoes, or marry him.

Hmmm.

I might have to reconsider my options... :-)

Instead of closing the topic...why not rename it please? --> So Long SROD!
I expected an obituary. :(

Obviously, it is you who is mixing up something: You are confusing your personal feelings with reality.
If someone else (netmaestro, and several other people who posted in this thread) feel that it's a great loss, then they are entitled to call it a great loss. This is not an exaggeration, this is what they feel. You could try to accept, that the feelings of other people are not always identical to yours. And when this happens, your feelings are not the "reality", and feelings of other people are not an "exaggeration".

By the way, what is your plan for your commercial products especially Artctic Reporting Suite?!
EsGRID and ExGRID require no more updates because, well, I cannot possible squeeze anything more into a ListView based grid control. :)

As for Arctic Reports... I am as yet still undecided on that score. I really do not know what to do with it? It represents too much work for me to simply discard it; but yet, I have no time at the moment to update it further. Truth be told, it never really sold that well anyway; no where near the level of EsGRID/ExGRID and so even if still coding full-time, I would find it difficult to justify working on it in anything more than a part-time/spare-time capacity. Such is life. :) What I might do is simply release the source for free once my little business is better established to the point that I know for sure that I will not be returning to coding anytime soon.

As for "A great loss"; well, I will certainly be losing out since I will not be working with this great programming language (or any other for that matter) for the forseeable future. It was Netty's choice of words and I am sure he'll stand by them. I count Netty as a good friend as I do many in these forums, but the choice of wording is no big deal as I see it. Sure, I was expecting an announcement of some bereavement or other, and was pleasantly surprised to then find that I was reading about my own! :)

This is not a great loss. The graveyard is full of indispensable people. None of us is a great loss.

If srod has left the building to sell cars, then good luck to him, goodbye and thanks!

I hope more people from the French and German forums step in here in the future, though.

The terminology I employed is not something over which I care to quibble. It is a great loss to me, and that's that. Moreover, srod was always ready to roll up his sleeves and give sterling help to those who were stuck on something, often posting quite a bit of top-quality code in the process. He's helped many people here, including me, solve problems countless times with nothing asked in return. It is this quality that prompted Fred to assign him the rank of "Purebasic Expert", a designation that now must be earned. Let's have no more discussion on the absurd idea of quantifying the loss to these forums, it's great.
