It's just that it makes the product seem less serious and dependable.

Re: Ads on the forums
Mmh yes it does make the product seem less serious, but there is a solution: call this an unofficial forum.
But its no problem for me. Those ads are nice, without pictures and hidden under the forums and without spywarecookies. Fred gets money through 1000 x impressions and/or 1 x clicks.
bye,

Is CNN a serious news organization? They have an ad on their news site.

Attempting to take control and convince Fred to go against his beliefs only creates friction and flames. Live and let live.

The ads are fine by me.

That's like judging a book by it's cover. Less serious and dependable as compared to what? As a user of PureBasic, I can conclude that the PB Team is serious and dependable in regards to PureBasic and this community, and that's good enough for me.Trond wrote:It's just that it makes the product seem less serious and dependable.
The PB team is simply doing unto others as they would have others do to them. If the PB team has no problem with the PureBasic licensing, then it should be a non-issue.Fred wrote:If we have choosed a one time licensing scheme for all plateform, it's because we actually dislike to pay everytime a new version of a software we use comes out (i ended up with free software alternatives for that very reason). It's a kind a compromize, and we are really fine with it.

Re: Ads on the forums
Yes, but CNN is popular in a general scene whereas PureBasic is just popular in the programming scene. Programmers know google ads and that they're used on many noobsites like mine to get some income. If it would be some other ad or a own contract with one company or such it may be more accepted.netmaestro wrote:Is CNN a serious news organization? They have an ad on their news site.
But I don't really care if there is an ad here, so I don't like the discussion, even if both positions are right somehow.

I think there is enough talk about this topic. It's going nowhere. Let's focus on programming
