Ads on the forums

Post by Fred »

Hi everybody,

Since some time, we are wondering if putting some ads on the forums would makes some significant income, or not. We decided to give it a try, so it will be located at the bottom of the forums, to reduce the inconvenience to the maximum. We know than some of you will not agree this, but if it can help a bit, it would be dumb to ignore it.

This is just a trial for now, nothing definitive. Crossed-fingers 8)

Hey, as long as they are porn adverts then you'll get no complaints from me!

I can't see that adverts would reduce the uselfullness of these forums in any-way and if the income helps in the support of this great language then great. 8)

Now... about that porn......

**EDIT : serious note. If it is to be g***le adsense and the like; then any mention on these forums by any user about clicking banners and links etc. to raise the income will likely result in G***le suspending the account. It happened on another programming forum I frequent some time ago. Just thought I'd mention it!

Anyway...
You could also sell specific "platform Add-ons" for PB :-)
I think, they are many out there, who would buy such Add-ons. If it`s good, I would buy it.

As long as you promise we will never see ads between posts or even IN posts (I've seen that, it's a nightmare) I have no problem with that at all.

i am upset by this but thinking about it, i've had an ad in my sig for years...

Fred if you need the money, change PB's license, lifetime updates is stupid as far a business goes. Any maybe change to embrace games production more in PB's command set. I thought the 3D engine was getting some love for years now? Make other add-ons and commercial libs, etc. The guys at Darkbasic, Blitz, Realbasic, have been doing this for years and they make a good living. If you really want the money start treating it like a business and not just a bedroom project.

Also add proper OOP! i'd pay £100s for that!

P.S. you'll not make a cent with the ads at the bottom!

Hi Fred,

The ad at the bottom of this page sits ok with me. I hardly noticed it at first.
I hope it all helps bring in some more income. You must all get very thirsty burning those midnight oils whilst producing these betas. :)

Keep up the great work.
Regards

Andy
