Evangelizing PureBasic Campaign?
Evangelizing PureBasic Campaign?
Hi All,
I've been doing a lot of research lately on some different languages I'm interested in, like Python, Free Pascal, Clean, etc.
This link keeps coming up as a reference from many forums and posters.

If FreeBasic is in there, why not PB?
I was wondering if anyone is interested in starting a campaign to increase PureBasic awareness?
I can't help but think that increasing PB's visability can only help not only Fred, but us. If PB gets more interests as a serious programming language outside of the games arena, Fred then gets more resources to devote to our favorite language.
I think a lot of programmers dismiss PB primarily because of the Basic in the name and the stigma that goes along with that. In reality, PB has a certain C-ness to it that would probably generate a lot of interest from those who know C, if only they were aware of that fact.

I realize this comes up every so often, wasn't aware that it had just come up.
What puzzles me though is why Fred seems averse to any attempt to improve PB's visability?
I do not think PB will ever come to compare against VB.NET. But I do think there are a ton of people who would jump at PB as an alternative to C, or as a RAD language with speed approaching C++.
Does Fred no longer work full time on PB? If he does,
wouldn't an increase in sales be a boone?
I'm not saying Fred should think about hiring a team of programmers, or expanding into a business-like organization. However, couldn't additional income be used for sprucing up the website, or getting some sort of additional technical expertise when needed?
I think there are a lot of folks here who would be happy to help promote PB out on the internet. Maybe try to get it included in language surveys, or send suggestions to editors to include it or write about it.
And, its obvious there are talented people who can put together a website. Why not have a contest in the forums, and let Fred/members crititique a possible upgrade?
I do not believe PR in and of itself is expensive or time consuming to Fred or the team.
All thats needed is for people to take the initiative, if Fred or the team simply support it.
I've never seen an organization actively discourage its members enthusiasm like this.
Heck, who knows, if there were more members maybe that would give Fred the resources to do things he's really wanted to do, 2nd pass compiler, etc?

I won't bother answering that.aaron wrote:Wow, who pissed in your cornflakes? You taken comments from people (not Fred or the PB team) in another thread and extrapolated that to that? How old are you? 15? :roll:Polo wrote:Fred does not want new people to know his product ...
Seriously though, why bother trolling? We don't need that here.
This is what Fred and Freak said.

I don't believe that!Polo wrote:This is what Fred and Freak said.Polo wrote:Fred does not want new people to know his product ...

maybe giant misunderstanding, but entirely bullshit.
... I really read almost every post of Fred and Freak the last two years or so,
and I would remember if the had said something like that.
quite the contrary, they always said that they only get money from new sells, not from updates, so they need new sells going on.
oh... and have a nice day.
Polo seems to be upset because no new website was adapted?

If the owners (and most of the users) are happy, why rock the boat?freak wrote:PureBasic is a niche product, and it always will be. Also PB needs to achieve a certain critical mass before people start investing in PB, e.g. writing books, tools, etc...
Its not about the website, its not about the marketing (although it probably could be better),
its not about OOP, its not about all the other "killer features" some of you tend to think will
lead to instant world domination.
Its simply about what the world of compilers and programming languages looks like today,
and PB will never stand a chance there against the big shots. But thats not our aim and
it never was.
So just grow up and face the real world...
cheers
I exagerrate, though he kind of said that, by saying he's not interested in marketing, new website and such (even when a user proposed his own help to build the website).
It's happy I bought PB a few years ago, because by seeing the website and the screenshots on the website (which looks like 98 stuffs...) I wouldn't have looked very far and certainly not bought the product.

If you read my post closely, you'll see that i did say the marketing could be better,Polo wrote:yes, and I'm not sure I like that they don't care how old the website and pictures of the product on it look, that's allrsts wrote:Polo seems to be upset because no new website was adapted?![]()
and i am also not opposed to website updates. All i was saying is that it won't bring
instant world domination as some of you seem to think it would.
Now if and when we do something about this will be by our timetable, not yours.
Just because you think it should be done right now doesn't mean Fred has to jump
through hoops just to make you happy.
Now, could somebody please start a 3rd thread about this ? Two just don't seem to be enough...
