Not that there should be much speedgains here thoug.
What's Nod32?

probably the least annoying antivirus you'll ever find. The fastest engine out there. One of the best heuristic engines, too. And its very lightweight, too. Probably daily updates, too. Runs automatic of course, and not cloggin the system and wanting to tell you that it has updated like many others.
It consistently wins top awards from testing labs and is recognized for having zero false positive.
I know the company say that, BUT that it gets to use the virus bulletin VB100 award which means:
It detects all In the Wild viruses during both on-demand and on-access scanning.
It generates no false positives when scanning a set of clean files.
more:

AND no I am not adverticing. Just telling of my experience, and i can tell you that i don't regret a single second that i chose this one :)

Based on all the recommendations, I just installed nod.

Stops my computer stone dead when I do a scan ..... I have to keep pausing it to do other things (like making this post).

That's because your running the On-demand scan, it'll take much of the resources to have it go faster to get done quicker. After having ran manually the scan for the first time, you can then sit back and relax with NOD32 top rating background shields...

Okay, I see. I think .. :)

So after checking your fixed drives, it relies on checking only for changes. IE, downloads, installs, updates and etc?

If so, is that safe? What happens if the initial scan misses something that was not yet identified and is not easily detected when activated (in memory)?
