Nah. Truly, the beatles are on the top 2 of influencing bands. Kraftwerk is too. Which of them is number 1 i can't answer. According to the musical side i suppose beatles is, but when it comes to uses of the technology there is no doubt AT ALL that kraftwerk comes as number 1.

Maybe there are others on the list too? (how can there be when there is room for two and i naimed them? THINK BIG)

RnB is actually the POP music these days. But I don't like things like rihannah. Then you say but she looks cute. Allright, look at a pic without makeup. Surely her skin is nice but her head looks like its going to explode (the reason of the hair over the top-of-head when performing hehe). Same goes for many of the other "front people" that the kids are looking up to. Without makeup, they're even uglier than the majority (Halle Berry looks nice without makeup though. i know she's not a musician).

RnB and rap is getting more and more influenced by trance and techno it seems. But again, it sucks anyway muhaha.
I beat up people listening to it loud on their cellphone thinking they're cool. No i don't but i'd like to try one day..

That said, there is a track now and then that i really like. Actually some of the stuff Eminem has done I find musically intelligent and lyrically too.

And for fuck sake, don't listen to a specific kind of music because its "IN". If you like trance and dislike RnB, don't listen to the crap just because the people in your school (or whatever) do. Don't cut borders at genres. Cut borders at what you like! Sometimes I even find an RnB track I like (SOMTIMES. rarely)

Kraftwerk undoubtely had an incredible impact on today's music (being the
pioneers in electronic music), yet even Kraftwerk's music (harmonies that is)
is being influenced by The Beatles IMHO.

On the other hand there're countless people who "invented" certain styles or
sounds in music history and every new idea influenced another one (just
think of how reggae, punk and ska relate to each other).

I think it's impossible to keep track of all this. Jazz music in general
emancipated drums as a "real" instrument, Phil Collins must have been the
first producer to make drums sound really "big" (using gated reverb), etc. etc.

Yes Kraftwerk did have a big impact on me because I have always been into electronic music since it started back in the 70's, I have several albums.
Tangerine Dream was another.
I am into synths and I have several of them analog and digital.

Was Van Halen mentioned, they were probably the innovators of US metal.

A friend of mine who comes from France was a dealer of vynal records back in the seventies and is still a dealer here in Australia has thousands of records and believe me people who only listen to commercial stuff are missing out on what quality music is.

Most promoted music today is formulated crap made by non musicians after a quick buck. if it wasn't for video they would not have a chance.

Every one in the commercial music world is getting their knickers in a twist over the spice girls at the moment and they are low level creators (or should I say performers (and bad ones at that) of some of the crappiest music on the planet. (I feel sorry for the spice girl lovers)
That shows you how big a sorry situation it is for quality musicians to be heard when S**T like that gets promoted.

Today its all about the money not the music, improvised music by good musicians died years ago when the non musicians started running the show.

Quality music can be found though thanks to the internet.

BUT the people who watches MTV are too stupid to figure that out.

Well, we just gotta face it. The celebrities these days are mostly celebrities because they can dance and looks good. Britney spears singing voice is horrible these days (found an acapella.. horrible). Surely, some CAN sing. But what I don't understand is why the singers who just sing gets in front, while its the producers that is actually the people with the musical intelligence (sometimes..).

But thats the way the cookie crumbles

MTV.. Music without passion but visuals instead. Sad world

I totally agree with you. MTV is so boring. Celebrities are boring.
This has been one of my pet hates for over 25 years now.
And the commercial radio stations over here are still playing the same songs day in day out, year in year out.
The Australian entertainment scene is mostly controlled by US multinationals.
So I imagine it just as bad in the US too, England probably the same.
Not sure what its like in your neck of the woods, I hope its much better.
I did hear that its a bit more better in some parts of Europe, I might have heard wrong though.

Take a drive out into the bush here in Kev 07's state (and not all that far either). Tune in to local station and hear all the music from the 60s and 70s.

Depends. Things like Radio Voice is commercial crap. Same goes for my local station (or at least the first. there is a gold edition too, 24/7 with softer music from the past and now).

HOWEVER; actually some of the national stations are really good. For example we got P1, P2, P3 and P4, and they are quite non-static. P1 though is kept for talk. Science talk, and other debates/discussions. P2 is for classical music in the day, but in the evening they switch over to jazz and interesting musical things, also african music. And they often talk with the artists a little between the number, depending on the show.

P3 is good, depending on the show thats on. There is one where they play the modern music, but the others usually got styles attached. Surely, they also play a little bit of rap and such the others, but f.x one of them has declared never to play rihannah and 50 cent etc, but NOT limited from playing hiphop/rap, rock and electronic music (not trance though, but some rather interesting stuff anyway). In the evenings they got a pure electronic show where they play funny subgenres of electronica.

P4 is mostly hm. for older people

TV2 Radio, well, depending on the show, but usually not the too commercial MTV stuff but they might play it some days if its (what they call) good.

Then there is HIT.fm which is completely mtv crap. Could be their base chart played in the radio. Until they sometimes go over to some non-mtv stuff, when people request it.

But in general i don't listen to it because they still do play that crap. However once in a while I enjoy a show on P3

Of course i can receive a few other radio stations but they're usually not worth listening to heh. Sorry for the long post hehe

Yep, except, there is nothing like club/house/trance playing 24/7 sadly.
I recall a certain Pete Tong from bbc radion in england, but not from the radio but he was in "Its all gone pete tong"

We do have a couple of community radio stations here in Adelaide that plays some interesting stuff sometimes prog, jazz, folk, blues, electronic, metal etc. and also support local musos too.

And we have one national alternative station for all Australia called JJJ (they are on the web too). I only listen to them every few months or so for a week to listen to new stuff until they have repeat same songs over and over. Not as bad as the commercials but a week every few months is ok.

Otherwise the rest are over commercialized clap trap. :roll:

Yes the commercials are repeating all over. Its boring.. When you tune away from one station you might as well just hit the same song on another.

Jazz and blues are some of my likings. But apropos metal and such, P3 do play that. They might as well fire off a jazz piece, mettallica, led zeppelin, eminem and some electronic (hm. for example something by Anders Trentemøller) or even house music (also electronic ok..).

That said, I am still into Trance. I know some people dislike it, but most of the dislikers watch MTV and i pity them. They haven't tried what its like to be affected by music.

But again, its rather mixed up here unless you hit the bad things like The Voice. Even though some of the shows on P3 play commercial crap (probably also because people send their wishes for it), they might as well play another thing too.

I remember quite a few years ago when I was into Kraftwerk and the like the MTV type plebs said I was listening to space music.
Luckily I had a German friend who was into good inspirational stuff too that he bought over here so I was saved, the internet was a figment of someones imagination back then.

Nowadays, even the radio hosts might check up on myspace or so to find interesting new tracks. The good hosts.

No I am afraid not, there are a hell of a lot of people who just simply follow the leader just to be with the in crowd. :roll:
