I'm no idiot, but I'm having a dickens of a time learning the how-to's of PB programming. PB seems to be much more powerful than Blitz, except for a few things:
3D support (well, in Blitz3D) and
Help system/manual. If someone could take a look at their demo (http://www.blitzbasic.com) and see what I mean: There's A User's Guide, tutorials, etc.

A reference guide is fine if you already know your way around, but what if you don't? I checked out the reelmedia website, but there weren't that many tutorials.

I'll figure it out eventually, but this is frustrating...I downloaded the Blitz demo and was programming simple games the same day after reviewing the user guide and examples.

I don't know...Maybe I *AM* an idiot! :)

I'm most concerned with screens (full screen), sprites and animation in general. The basic BASIC commands are common to most versions of BASIC around the world, so it's the PB-specific ones I'm needing info on.

Thanks!

I know it's not optimal, but my kickstart into gaming with PB was the sourcecode for Lady's Garden by Paul Leischow on the PB resource site. It's well structured and easy to read.
I guess within time more things like that will popup.

Best regards
Van

Since I originally wrote this topic, I've learned a little more so things are getting better. (I still highly recommend the user guide approach, though). A lot of things that are handled automatically in Blitz require an extra step in PB, like InitSprite() and Initkeyboard()/ExamineKeyboard() (which is fine, once I know about it). Takes some getting used to, but I'm getting there.

Thanks for the tip on Lady's Garden. I'll download the source and check it out.

Thanks!

InitXXX() stuff are absolutely needed, if you want to continue your program without the DirectX support.

Initiated by german forum members several things on this topic are going on, first result (its still development!) from FreeDimension is: http://www.pan-galactic-gargle-blaster.de
It will become a large online reference with examples for all PB commands, tutorials & more. Should become available also for english people in future, I hope... :)

André
