So how are you supposed to change the default drivers on a LiveCD?thefool wrote:Afaik that is not true. Its just the default ntfs "drivers" that doesnt allow writing.Straker wrote:NTFS is read-only
PureLinux?
About the conversion of the PureWinLin Distribution to VMWare Player I tried it mysqlf using http://www.consolevision.com/members/dc ... xform.html
for the VMX File and converting the debian.img to a .vmdk unsing Karlox qemu build, the ubelieveable thing is it really boots but when debian tries to start the X-Server it fails pbcompiler itself seems to work though. It would be cool if somone with a Workstation edition and not only the player could make a vmware distribution out of PureWinLin maybe also with a newer Kernel debian 3.1 sarge only ha a 2.4 brand Kernel I think...

Hmm the tools thing can't be the problem since Damn Smal Linux' X Server runs just fine...
I will inverstigate further.

An own distribution like this would be a great thing. What about stripping down a Knoppix one, installing PB and all the reqiured packages and put it in the registed user area?
.
This would be cool too. I tried it myself but I allways get an invalid imageIt would be cool if somone with a Workstation edition and not only the player could make a vmware distribution out of PureWinLin maybe also with a newer Kernel debian 3.1 sarge only ha a 2.4 brand Kernel I think...

Yes. I have VMWare Workstation 5.5. The message was something about Invalid format or image, I can't really remember well. I used -1024 M option so the image is 1 GB long, maybe the command line switches I used were wrong

You tried the .img file from Beach? If yes you have to convert it into a vmdk that can be done using qemu-img, anyhow I have the system itself working and tried to reconfigure the X Server but that didn't work I will try to do a dist upgrade and maybe change the X Server to X.Org if nothing else helps, however this is the first time I try to nearly rebuild a whole Linux system.
EDIT: OK the virtuial mashine is now running it's update process and it seems that new packets for XFree86 are in the list of new packages so let's wait and see.

I used ssh and cygwin to login to the server because I didn't get my german keyboard configured in consolemode. I then tried to connect to the cygwin X server that didn't work yet;-(
Anyway here is the error it gives me when starting the X Server on the local display aka the virtualised graphics card (I did a dist upgrade and reconfigured the X-Server but that didn't help)
Maybe this can help to solve the problem.

I'll try something: I'll install Ubuntu (Debian based, easy to use), install all the needed files and packages and the demo version of PB and then I'll use AtomicWebServer to host it for one day. I'll announce it here and I'll give you my IP and the download URL for the .vmdk drive. What do you think?
[Edit]
Maybe Beach can download it and host it, I can't run the server too long, because my hardware is old. After that we can talk to Fred and insert the full version of PB, dunno. We'll find a method

The problem is an Ubuntu downlaod will be very I think Beaches debian version would be ideal but I somehow can't get the X Server to run if you want I can host the vmdk I got so far then you can try to get it running.

I just tried Puppy Linux because it's small but it's hell of dumb it has programs like excel and word and hundreds of other programs nobody needs on it's zipped 60 mb and you can even install new software however you can't install gcc form their package system who needs linux without gcc????
´Damn Small Linux would also be possible but I don't know how to do a hard drive install so I can really install pb...
