Can't we just download his brain to some AI server and have IT take over for Fred someday???techjunkie wrote:...I agree, the first person in this world that should been cloned - it's Fred!...
How much time do you allocate to PB?

I'll guess FBI, CIA, NSA or Disney would be interested to put in some bucks to make that happen.
(Ohhhh MY is this off topic or what?!?! I love PB forum!)

I can't agree with the "one person" perspective, there are several guys on the team. Andre, Timo, Benny, and contributions come in from Gary and others. The idea of Fred selling out isn't too scary as he is obviously passionate about the niche PureBasic fills in the world of development tools and I believe he would have to be convinced that a potential buyer for Fantaisie Software shared his vision of the language (and offer a sh**load of money) before considering a sale. There just remains the hit-by-a-bus scenario. He has already said in an interview that he's made provisions for PureBasic to go on if something should happen to him, the only variable would be rate of development. It's been vigorous the past year or so, with Fred working full time on it, but it would still be a very vibrant and living language if a couple guys plugged away on it in spare time. Look at Gamemaker, what a brilliant piece of work that is, and Mark Overmars holds down a fulltime job teaching university. Also, once v4.0 is debugged and released, how much development is it going to need to stay current? It's pretty complete now imho. Back in the 3.x days it lacked some features, not so much now. My 0.02 anyways. Cheers.

We should make a PureBasic day!
I've had two or three drinks right now, so I think I'm going to donate a couple of bucks to PB again...

Maybe the PB team should sponsor with some free beer, wine or drinks? I think they could make a profit of it...Num3 wrote:Ah Oh!

Pure Basic is a great tool goes without saying but it has drawbacks :
it wont do light effects the way that i want to use them unless i want to program direct x and i dont thats why i bought pure basic hoping that the commands for e.g. point light, spot light etc - would be built in - maybe one day...
but for apps I think it is excellent!
I will be using c++ & dark game SDK as it does the lighting and 3d control that I need for my Game and all the fancy bits - sure its a bit harder but well worth it
99.9% of professonal programers cant be wrong they have been using c++/c for years.
I think it comes down to the correct tool for the job.
anyway this is my view i still think Pure Basic is very powerful and its getting better all the time
Regards
Kevin

I'd like to know what these plans are. I'd assume something to do with Freak,
as he seems to be the Number Two Man for PureBasic. Any comment, Fred?

I compile using 5.31 (x86) on Win 7 Ultimate (64-bit).

For the vote, I chose 30%-60% of my spare time. In the past, I was a shift
worker (midnight-to-dawn mainly) so I'd come home and code from 8am to
1pm, then go to bed. Now I'm a regular 8am-5pm worker so the nights are
spent with Michelle (my wife). Luckily, she goes to bed around 9pm so I try
to code from 9pm-midnight. Will have even less time when the baby's born,
but that's not a problem -- it's a blessing!
Besides, I'll teach her* to code!
