Or eventually have a page with ads on where those who DOES want to support pb team without buying another license can go and click sometimes :)

I agree with that. We are getting too much for too little. There are many forms this could take, such as splitting up gaming and gui app development in 59 euro pieces and bringing it all together in a "pro" version costing 100. Just one of many possibilities, but I have to agree that in that scenario current license holders should qualify for a pro license.
The second this happens I do not use purebasic anymore. A programming language is a programming language. To go the way of DarkBASIC would eventually lead to ridiculus pricing and adding "features" that should be free bugfixes and selling them for extra money.

I don't think fred would do this, and he's probably got many other options he'd try before this one.

I appreciate and do truly like the idea of having life-time upgrades for free, as I am included in. However, I would not throw a fit if yearly or bi-yearly (as I just did an upgrade for another application for the like amount) be willing to say pay a nominal fee (of say... $15) for upgrades, bugfixes or however you want to phrase it, as long as some forward movement is being made.

ps. It's a business model and it should be treated as such if it's to sustain Fred and whoever (if any) else is in on the cash receiving end of the equation.

Yeah, I tend to agree, but that's what made me choose PureBasic over the
competition in the first place. :) Otherwise I would have gone elsewhere.
I think maybe Fred should charge US $99 instead of US $69, though. That
would still be good as it's under the hundred-dollar mark, which is still very
enticing for potential purchasers (once they see a three-digit price, they'll
tend to hesitate before buying...).
I compile using 5.31 (x86) on Win 7 Ultimate (64-bit).

shouldnt it be more like:

Code: Select all

1 For i = 0  To Len2Days(Len(Life))
2    Eat()
3    Work()
4    Code()
5    Have_Sex()
6    Sleep(Rand(HoursToMS(6),HoursToMS(8)))
7 Next
:P i was too lazy to make params etc. for other than Sleep() :P

Ads in forums are known for giving few money, as tipically the users base is always the same, and ads works great in sites where users are always new. (the same people will not click an ad more than once.)
thefool wrote:What about paying for having ads at google?
This is a good idea, Adwords (that is, you pay, and the ads appear in google search results) are good for two reasons:

1- Fred could sell more PB copies. (good for him)
2- The userbase grows, more examples, more useful sites about PB (good for us too)

The eventual paypal account could be used do feed the Adwords program...

:lol:
Sorry for being NOT original but the Jedi Mind trick it is my opinion also!! No ads it put the "nice factor" below zero for me.

Better to implement an anual fee of say 10 euro than having ads who "lead you astray" (outside the forum)..

No, no on ads (yeeks it is 50 - 50 now, no "winner" grrrr :twisted: :evil: )
