Google ads on this forum
Re: Google ads on this forum
Firstly: with Firefox + AdBlock I don't usually see any Google Ads anyway.
I agree with Kale, that using Google Ads makes a site look cheap and unprofessional.
Any site that has them looks desperate to make money. Fred recently left his day job
to work on PureBasic on a full-time basis, so I assume he's doing okay without having
to resort to such gimmicks? Unless he says something otherwise, why is there a need
to assume that he doesn't know what he's doing, or to insult his business intelligence?
Another point to consider is PureBasic's peers. The very fact that it's a Basic language
means that any potential purchasers (the smart ones, anyway) will have compared
PureBasic to PowerBasic, RealBasic, IBasic, etc. So if they go surfing and see Google
Ads here only, but not on the other sites, what will they think? It makes PureBasic
look cheap and unprofessional compared to the rest. This cannot be a good thing.

I compile using 5.31 (x86) on Win 7 Ultimate (64-bit).

I didnt mean purebasic.com. Just this forum!
Does the ads on http://flstudio.com make it cheap? They have over 65.000 paying customers, and 150 000 demo downloads each month so the ads clearly arent scaring customers away there..

It also makes pages "look more busy" and that's a bad thing with regards to Web design, as far as I'm concerned.thefool wrote:I didnt mean purebasic.com. Just this forum!

Vote NO! on GoogleAds Proposition 2006
(joke, it's a joke, there is no blah, blah, disclaimer here).

That's what I was talking about too (I said: "if they see Google Ads here").

But how many chose to go with another product instead? We'll never know.
Besides, how well would Google Ads serve PureBasic anyway? I just did a test
search for "purebasic" with Google and it had ads for RealBasic and JustBasic.
Do we really want to see ads for competing Basic products on these forums,
especially for Basics that are "completely free for Windows"?

lol @ jedi mindtrick!
PB is right, the ads will be contextual and point to other basics. Perhaps not a sign of good PureSelfEsteem.
Or perhaps a sign of supreme PureSelfEsteem (Go on, check em out, you'll always come back to Pure!)
Anyhow, I don't think it is a good idea. These forums can get sluggy enough without any extra help.)
* Thinks: Might all be academic anyhow, depends on where/how the forums are hosted. *
