SOooooooooooooo, I suspect if enough of us actually said "Hey how about a AMD64 or x86 version?", then perhaps they would do something about it?

Seems crazy to me that the x86 isn't supported in today's market.

Yeah, but thats the trouble with ANYTHING Amiga... they are afraid to step into the unknown...

I'm not sure if that's the reason, since Amiga got started for that very reason (stepping into the unknown). More likely, IMHO, they want to attempt to preserve what makes an Amiga an Amiga, and x86 isn't it!

That being said, it would be cost prohibitive for them to create an Amiga along the lines of the classic systems to run the new OS, even if the core processor is an Intel or AMD x86.

Now, Apple has done the right thing: It's the OS that Apple users love, not necessarily the hardware. And the new Apple OS runs on PC hardware (Don't believe me? I've seen it already...). In the long run, this is what Apple needed to do to stay alive.

What would be a really cool thing for Amiga to do, but extremely unlikely, especially this late in the game, is to build a system that uses an XBox 360 or PS3 as its base hardware and add their own keyboard and OS, etc. Sound crazy? Perhaps. But it sure would make it easier to be the fastest on the block, since a LOT of people are going to own one or both of those systems in the near future. I can't see why this would be illegal either as long as they licensed the rights....

Where? I knew that apple are moving to x86s for their new systems but i thought they were making sufficient changes to prevent PC user installing it on their systems.

I would love to see Mac OS X on a high end PC, ..man, it would ROCK HARD!!!

Apple need to move to another processor, the G4s and G5s just don't cut it. I use 'em everyday and compared to PCs, Macs are just sooooooooooo slooooooowww. :roll:

Why is it coming for x86 when x86 is soon outdated?

I had an Amiga years ago and got blown away by how much fun it was and how much it could do with so little. It's sad that we need super fast hardware for today's O/S's just to run.

I could not afford to keep up with the old platform and would look forward to something that makes good use of what it's running on, instead of bloating the hell out of itself to make a buck.

Amiga was good and useful, I can't say the same out of windows but I understand it, I am stuck with it and there are almost no other alternatives. Would love to see the AmigaOS philosophy run on today's hardware.

assuming that it's mostly written in c(++) i'd assume it would be rather easy to convert to x64 systems, dunno why they won't do it, if it would only make a few bucks it would still be okay, i guess

website is a bit laughable though, touting a ram disk as the greatest invention since sliced bread is somewhat sad...

That's true, because nothing beats sliced bread for greatness!

But seriously, there were/are many things to like/love about the Amiga:

- No fuss program installations. None of this registry crap, or putting 800 files scattered all over your hard drive. And no conflicts. Ready to uninstall? Just delete the folder! Simple.

- Autoconfig that actually works as advertised (Plug and play still has not reached this level even after 10 years).

- Running into 'la la land' is virtually none existant. La la land is when your computer is doing something that prevents you from continuing yet there is no HD activity, and no error messages at all.

- Start up, on a sufficiently quick hard drive, lasts about 10 seconds or less. Shut down? Just flip the %&$#% switch!

Yeah, it had it's own share of problems, but overall I think the Amiga did much more right than wrong. It's a shame that the parent company was run by complete idiots...

I agree, the Amiga was brilliant, in almost every way! It is a big pity that it died. I must admit if OS4 supported a pc, i would probably buy and install it on one here.

to be honest, so would i! and i feel rather surprised saying so... <puzzled look, pondering> i think it would be a great os to run on stand alone boxes, with a little purebasic on there great things could be done, in a way i liked the amiga os better than linux

hell, i know nothing about linux
