Everything else that doesn't fall into one of the other PB categories.

Hi @ all
Yes, you have read it correctly... The first executeable file using BlitzMax was created and proudly reported by Mark Sibly! Seems, they want to beat PureBasic in all ways... Portable code for Linux, Windows, Macintosh - Very small Filesizzes, Full API/GUI/2D/3D support... I think BlitzMax will be a real rival for PureBasic and it will come a hard time for Fred! I am still waiting for the first BlitzMax Demo/Final version to see the speed, compiled filesizzes and how stable it will work...
Check it at: http://www.blitzbasic.co.nz/cgi-bin/log ... =marksibly

First BlitzMax exe going! 22:55:35 06-02-2002
Woohoo! - The source code:

Code: Select all

    Function inc( x var )
        x=x+1
    endfunction
    Local x,i var=x
    x=10
    inc x
    inc i
    Print i
    Return 0
output: 12
file-size: 5120 bytes.

Always an exciting moment in compiler writing...

Bye!
Mark

Duron800,256M Ram,
GeForce256

Wow... Really small filesize...

Fred, why not add some more free coders to your team, like Danilo - to add/fix some more stuff on PureBasic, before BlitzMax will be released? You have a lot to work if you want most of the features that Blitz, Blitz3D or BlitzMax will have... ;(

BlitzMax sounds like a wonderful thing. However, you should probably take a look at a couple of threads over at BlitzProfessional.com before you start dropping your PB licenes and getting signed up....

Maybe, but the price is a bit steep: $400? That's $800 in Australian dollars,
almost what I paid for Visual Basic! I'd hardly rate BlitzMax in the same
category as Visual Basic...

Besides, I for one aren't going to "defect" to BlitzMax without a good reason.
PureBasic has many great features, especially one that can't be beat: its author
listens and responds to you! Fred has been an excellent example of
customer support, and many of my ideas have been implemented into PureBasic as a
result (eg. procedure/label jumping, variable viewer, debug output). Will the
author of BlitzMax listen to his users in the same way? Only time will tell.

PureBasic produces small executables too, with full API and inline ASM support.
PureBasic suits me just fine, and, with vis2pure, has the benefit of an excellent
professional, commercial IDE editor.

Maybe newbies can be wooed by BlitzMax, but at $400, are they going to pay...?

As I said before, I like competition. PureBasic 3.0 will be out in about 2 months and will brings lot of news, in games AND applications sector. BlitzMax is just reaching what PureBasic does since the start so I don't know why I should wonder about a 5120 byte exec. PB can produce 4320 Kb exec if using special demo optimized program to do the same thing. Linux version of PB is already working and the v2.90 (out next monday) will prove than cross plateform, if not yet perfect is working (all my pb tools have recompiled with success, all including GUI file and database access). So what BlitzMax will bring of 'revolutionnal' ? Modular ? PureBasic IS. Dll/API support ? PureBasic already do that ? DLL creation ? Not planned for BlitzMax. When BlitzMax will be released, PureBasic had grow too, so don't be so pessimistic about PB futur. Hehe .

Yes, you are right in all points! Espectly the great support by Fred for this community is really the best support i have ever seen! I wrote sometimes emails to the team behind BlitzBasic, the Distribution SupportTeam, and ofcourse at Mark Sibly email... Until today i only got one email from the "Distribution SupportTeam by Schatztruhe/Germany" with a very very bad reply! I havent really understand what they wrote and on the last Amiga mess at cologne/germany i asked at the distribution stand (again schatztruhe) some technical questions about Blitz and Blitz3D - please beware!) Mark have not answered any of my emails... nothing to say!

I havent check how much BlitzMax will cost... but $400 would be really a lot of money!

Hi Master!
Mhhhh.. BlitzMax will bring at first for all Blitz2D, Blitz3D users the new part to have smaller programfiles (include only needed stuff, like PureBasic), to have a nice and fast 3D Engine (faster as in Blitz3D, still missing in PureBasic to code 3D ShootEmUp games i.e), portable code (like PureBasic), create SystemGUI (like in PureBasic) - Ofcourse BlitzMax will be first very interested for guys who want to develope 3D games only...

I think we all know that the team behind Blitz have steal your complete concept/idea of PureBasic to make money with this great concept under a new name! *bastards*))

Hope to see a powerfull and in most parts new features, maybe full 3D support in a new and stable PureBasic when BlitzMax will be released! Good luck and keep on your great work!
PureBasic 3.0 will be out in about 2 months and will brings lot of news, in games AND applications sector.
I am still looking forward! Can you tell us some new/planed features for PB3.0? Will there be any update like PB2.95 before releasing PB3.0 in about two months? Please fix the SwitchScreen bug! Would be nice to see an update before eastern, because of the final release at the competition of my 32k game at eastern )) Keep on your work and kick ass the team behind BlitzMax

Competition is good. I have purchased Blitz, DB, PureBasic, PowerBasic and a myriad of mainstream commercial development tools. They ALL have something to offer and they ALL have their weak points.

MrVainSCL... Do NOT get all childish and try to actively start a Blitz vs Purebasic war. And this is coming from someone who's name is in the Blitz3D manual.....................................

Hi Kanati!
Sorry man, maybe there would be something to be misunderstand!? I never want to start a war between Blitz and PureBasic! I have both languages as original and i love both languages, thats fact! The stuff i wrote about the support (by Mark and Schatztruhe) for Blitz is really true! (maybe i am the only one with this experience?)

Maybe you think i want to start a war, because of my following text (*bastards*)i posted:

Maybe you have noticed the smiles ) ?

Ok, i think this should be all from my site...

As a Blitz2d/3d, PB and VB user, I'd like to know how SRM arrived at $400? Is that a guestimate based on it's supposed functionality compared to (say) VB or something?

"Do you program in Assembler?" she asked. "NOP," I replied.

Shane's just got a serious Mad-On right now for BlitzMax. As usual, until the product ships, there's going to be 2523452 people making wild speculative arguments about it and Shane is just another one of them at this point. :(

I actually got that number from someone inside the Blitz organization. I didn't just pull it out of the air. I still have contacts and still get a mean stream of information.

Kanati, what is your problem? Go praise Blitz and its people on Blitz boards. You continually pop off with misinformation about me and seem to enjoy attacking me personally.

You know NOTHING about me. You aren't GOING to know anything about me. You're one of the many people that like to speculate without the inside knowledge you pretend to be privvy to.

Go trash me on the Official BB boards, please - just keep it out of here. I'd like to hang out somewhere without this sort of tripe isn't in every post I make or reply to.

Thanks.

That's ok Shane. You'll walk away from this one day soon too. I know for a fact that MARK was guesstimating when he said TWO HUNDRED. Not FOUR. Why? Because he said so in response to you spouting off 400. I used to have a lot of respect for you and your skills. With each flippant remark you make, that respect wanes. Get over yourself and your l33t skillz. When Guildhall and Mark annouces the price, if it's 400 bux I'll appologize. Until they announce it, keep your @#$%@ speculation to yourself.

I think both of you have maybe misunderstand something and i dont think that someone of you really wanted to be in war! I think nobody really know until now how much BlitzMax will cost and is this point so interested to get in fight? I think noooo.... Let us wait and see how much it will cost when available... And hey, respect to blitz, purebasic and all other coding communities...
