FPS Test

Post by DriakTravo »

I am working on making a game. I am about 1/3 complete with it and I want to make sure that it is not laggy on other peoples computer. There is nothing to shoot at yet, and no scoring system, no menu, no sound, there is alot that isn't complete yet. Please post how laggy it is, the framerate you are getting, and what type of computer you have.

I have a P4 2.4, Radeon 9800 Pro, 512 Ram and I get a steady 75 framerate.

Arrow keys to move, mouse to aim and shoot, esc to quit.

P.S. A great thanks to Danilo for the FPS Code. :D

i get 99fps. :) i had a strange quirk with it though, after running the demo for a while when moving the cursor in front of the tank the fps dipped to 49 but when moving the cursor up to the fps display and holding it there the fps went back to 99, weird!

Oops! I didn't even notice that, you are not supposed to be able to point the turret down... Thanks for telling me! :D

NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 Model 64.

FPS between 27 and 30, mostly 29 :?
Occasional brief jerking when moving the platform.
The very good thing is that I can actually see the graphics. No flicker, no noise, entire screen visible and clear as. This is a plus as most of the stuff I dl is full of noise and hard to see.

[EDIT]
After mouse clicking (the earth moved for me!) FPS drops to around 16, climbs to 19 and stays there.

Yes it is a shake effect I was tweaking when you shoot. Hmmm.... Thanks for feedback!

same as Dare2, my FPS is 30, with the same gfx card.
But it's not a reason, it's a 640x480 resolution and there's practically nothing on the screen. You can make something much faster.

What do you use to draw your pictures ?

(note: the result also change with the refresh rate of my screen. I get 30 FPS when I am in 60hz, and less than 20 in 85hz)

I think it is the smoke part... It requires alot of 3d operations. I am going to try to reprogram it and see if I can get some better results. Thank you all so much for helping me!!! :D

Same here. No smoke.

What I see is ground (grass and underneath soil), a black background and two brownish objects which I thought was a platform. And the FPS digits.

If it is a tank the two objects (not joined) would be the hull and turret. There are no tracks, no barrel, etc, showing.

And no smoke. :)

But what I can see is clear and well defined. :)

[EDIT]

Hi coma, how do you go with things like this: viewtopic.php?t=9118

seems that I have a little problem with your program on my config.
when I launch the program, I've got this :

<a href="screenshot1"><img src="http://coma.coma.free.fr/capture1.png"></a>

=very slow, no smoke, no rotations, no shots.

and when I return on my desktop (with atl-tab), then return to the game :

<a href="screenshot1"><img src="http://coma.coma.free.fr/capture2.png"></a>

as you can see, the second one is faster, and have all the correct gfx, effects, and rotations (excepted that the memory areas are erased by windows)
very strange.
