Compiler 6.04 vs 6.12

Compiler version 6.04 and earlier create a file much smaller than compiler 6.12. Why is that? And which compiler is better to use?

As Fred explained here, this is because of the updated Windows build chain. 6.12 is better to use because it's using a much newer C compiler with optimizations and fixes, even if the final executables are slightly bigger.
