Forum kind of slow [works again as expected]

Post by jamirokwai »

Hi there,

I witness some speed problems with the forum, since yesterday. DNS-Lookup is extremely slow, but the pages themselves are transferred in an instant.
I do not have any of these problems with the other websites, I visit.

Anybody with similar experience?

I can confirm.
Each click on a link takes several seconds.
No problem with other sites.

I had the same issue also this morning (Germany). But for now it seems solved again.

For it is very slow again. Clicking on the "Post reply" button took 25 seconds to bring me to the edit field.
Edit: Posting took 48 seconds.

It took me a while to identify the issue: there is an AI crawler called 'ClaudeBot' (from https://claude.ai/login) which was hammering all the forums hundred time per seconds:

Code: Select all

forums.purebasic.com:80 18.219.236.62 - - [25/Apr/2024:14:48:01 +0200] "GET /english/viewtopic.php?t=73356&sid=b6f3d5833b846c88bb6f73a68b3b69fc HTTP/1.1" 200 80956 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko; compatible; ClaudeBot/1.0; +claudebot@anthropic.com)"
I added a block in robots.txt for it and we will see if it changes anything. This is unacceptable for us as we could have paid a great amount of money for there training data if we had a billing plan which depends of the CPU/Bandwidth use (hopefully it's not the case). That said it is exactly like a DDOS attack and if it continues I will consider legal actions.

This started a week ago where I could not get forum to remember my login. Definitely mobile performance bad.

Forum down all last night.

Why was the forum down so long today?

I thought Fred was exasperated by my pineapple pizza jokes and decided to make life difficult for spaghetti eaters:

Forum is very slow/unresponsive, or gives "server busy/not responding" error,

BUT it seems to work well when using any VPN

Didn't try VPN to log in; it's being a pain to post this :o

I love ham and pineapple pizza (aka "Hawaiian pizza"), as do most Aussies, and will fight you to the death over it.

(testing VPN to log in, and it's working well)

I don't want to fight you to death, but I will if you continue to call it "pizza", otherwise ur free to eat anything you want

Yum! -> https://www.pizzahut.com.au/product/pizzas/hawaiian :lol:

Just to check: you realise the pineapple pieces are cooked, right? They're not cold and juicy like eating a real pineapple.
