Previous versions are signed. What is the intention behind the change?

"...As a side note we dropped codesign support for Windows package as the price went crazy for this (basically from 200 euros for 3 years to 450 euros per year, which is a total rip-off for nearly no advantage as AV still flags the execs as malware regardless of the signing state)."

See this post by Fred, and also some following posts of him in the same thread.tmc wrote: Sun Nov 12, 2023 3:11 pm I appreciate the responses but could you please direct me to a recent discussion as I'm not getting relevant search results. Wondering what's changed since May...
Re: PureBasic 6.03 digital signature
Appreciate it, thankyou both. Out of the loop for a while. The price increases definitely don't reflect the increase in cost. Pretty shocked at the cost between what I paid and what is now charged!
Re: PureBasic 6.03 digital signature
I don't understand. It is still around $130/year?
At least for my current search:
https://www.sslshopper.com/cheap-code-s ... cates.html
https://www.sslpoint.com/code-signing-certificates/
We sign both our executables and the installers. Better than not doing it. It gives some reputation while displaying your developer name during installation. I know that some AV does not care, but at least the visibility for the end user does.

Re: PureBasic 6.03 digital signature
I am sure Fred would be very happy if you covered the cost for him. That would be a wonderful gesture instead of trying to find fault with what Fred is doing.
Best wishes to the PB community. Thank you for the memories.
Re: PureBasic 6.03 digital signature
Huh? I didn't fault him. I just found cheaper code certificates easily and wondered why they weren't sufficient.Kuron wrote: Wed Nov 15, 2023 1:39 pm That would be a wonderful gesture instead of trying to find fault with what Fred is doing.
And why should I pay for Fred's certificates? I bought our PB licenses and also hired Fred for paid PB enhancements in the past, which finally went into the product for everyone (mainly during PB 5.4 and 5.6 releases). In the opposite of my post with sources for certificates that might be useful for someone, your post is just offending.
Re: PureBasic 6.03 digital signature
You are the one suggesting what he should do with his money.

Fred has explained himself and no coder pays attention to certificates. PB is targeted to programmers and coders, not the general home user with little experience. Other than raking in $$ for the certificate issuers, it is all part of the AV scam targeting indie developers everywhere.
Kudos to Fred for refusing to participate in the shakedowns anymore!

Re: PureBasic 6.03 digital signature
I don't. Stop putting words in my mouth that I didn't say! Read my post again. If someone is rude here, it is you because you suggested me that I should pay something! And you say that I was trying to find fault with what Fred is doing. This was all your words! I did that to no one here. Neither to Fred nor someone else.Kuron wrote: Wed Nov 15, 2023 10:38 pm You are the one suggesting what he should do with his money.Simply rude.
I just wrote that I 1) dont understand the pricing info because I can get them for around $130 and 2) I mentioned that we do it and why. I neither asked Fred to do so nor did I blame him for not doing so.
Re: PureBasic 6.03 digital signature
I've always held that view, that certs were nothing more than a blackmail industry. I don't sign my apps and people still download and pay for them.Kuron wrote: Wed Nov 15, 2023 10:38 pmKudos to Fred for refusing to participate in the shakedowns anymore!
Re: PureBasic 6.03 digital signature
130$/y is the raw price if you continue to the checkout, with usb token shipping and tax, it's close to 700$ for 3 years, which is a lot (I tried Certum as well, but the support was awful and decided to ask a refund).
