To be popular is way to much work. I just want to be me, myself and I. Oh no, does that mean I'm bipolar?

My AdGuard blocks the site. Sure this is a legit one? How do they get their data?

They are a tracking site is probably why.jacdelad wrote: Fri Aug 11, 2023 3:50 pm My AdGuard blocks the site. Sure this is a legit one? How do they get their data?
Hi, I don't blame you for being concerned about the above list site. I would be also and was at one time.
I take my privacy very seriously and have for a very long time.
I'm a person that says "If you violate my privacy and or infect my device(s), I'm done with you." I used Avast security for 30+ years and found out they violated their privacy policy and sold people's information. I have not gone back to Avast since.
Anyway, back on subject lol.
Their FAQ page is quite extensive and it would take me a long to explain. After reading their FAQ page, I gather they only track device stats and browser stats, no other sources of information is tracked. They take feedback and suggestions also.
The following was copied from their 1st question on their FAQ page. It sums it up I think. To get more information you'll need to read the whole FAQ page. Some of the words below were links to explain more, I only copied the words, no links
What methodology is used to calculate Statcounter Global Stats?
Statcounter is a web analytics service. Our tracking code is installed on more than 1.5 million sites globally. These sites cover various activities and geographic locations. Every month, we record billions of page views to these sites. For each page view, we analyse the browser/operating system/screen resolution used and we establish if the page view is from a mobile device. For our search engine stats, we analyze every page view referred by a search engine. For our social media stats, we analyze every page view referred by a social media site. We summarize all this data to get our Global Stats information.
We provide independent, unbiased stats on internet usage trends. We do not collate our stats with any other information sources. No artificial weightings are used. We remove bot activity and make a small adjustment to our browser stats for prerendering in Google Chrome. Aside from those adjustments, we publish the data as we record it.
In other words we calculate our Global Stats on the basis of more than 5 billion page views per month, by people from all over the world onto our 1.5 million+ member sites.
By collating our data in this way, we track the activity of third party visitors to our member websites. We do not calculate our stats based on the activity of our members alone. This helps to minimise bias in the data and achieve a random sample.
In July 2022, our global sample consisted of 5.3 billion page views (US: 1 billion); 885 million of these were search engine referrals (US: 142 million); 177 million of these were social media referrals (US: 58 million).

That explains why it's blocked for me. Anyway, these statistics are interesting, but I think they should be collected consensual.

Re: World wide market share stats (useful for development decisions)
I've used StatCounter for decades. It's a legit site whose data is used in many tech articles. I didn't have to subscribe to use it, ie. I don't get emails from them as I've turned them all off -> https://i.imgur.com/H3Wah4C.png
Re: World wide market share stats (useful for development decisions)
Good to know it's legit. I guess it's blocked for me because it's purpose is data collection.

Re: World wide market share stats (useful for development decisions)
Pretty much every website does data collection on its visitors: StatCounter, Google and Bing are the top three.
Re: World wide market share stats (useful for development decisions)
...the respective URLs are blocked too.
I know I can't prevent all of them, but at least a few.

I don't think there's any issues with statscounter.com
I more or less have the same block lists as adguard, so after unlocking statscounter.com I
blocked c.statcounter.com, s7addthis.com
and allowed cdnjs.cloudflare.com code.jquery.com statcounter.com, gs.statcounter.com

Since I don't have an account with statcounter, does anyone know if there is a benefit to having an account?

Re: World wide market share stats (useful for development decisions)
The benefit is for when you have a website so you can track visitor info like which country they came from, which pages they visited, etc.
