License and future of EditorsFactory

Post by ShadowStorm »

Hello everyone.

We had a big discussion here on the forum about EditorsFactory.

What I understood is that the license is a big problem for some people because they want to be able to sell their software that uses it, which I don't agree with as stated!

So some people don't want it, they prefer to create their own library...

But such a library is tedious and very long to create, so would they put it in Open Source?

We offered the module for free to everybody, without the right to charge for their software if they use it, which some people blame me for.

It's not so bad, but it's not enough and people don't care.
The goal here is to make the module evolve, and that many people use it and make it evolve.

So we will see what we can do with this license with Stargate.

I would also like to start a little poll where everyone is welcome.

Who is already using EditorsFactory ?
Who would be willing to use EditorsFactory if it was open source ?
Who would be willing to upgrade EditorsFactory if it were open source ?
I am French, I do not speak English.
My apologies for the mistakes.

I have sometimes problems of expression
I am sometimes quite clumsy, please excuse me and let me know.

Seriously, just let it go. The last thread on this topic ended like this:

It makes no sense to start a new thread talking about licensing and future again.

Hello,

Oh yes, it does, it makes sense, first because it's a topic dedicated to that, and then to have everyone's opinion and to know what to do next!

But if I understand your reaction well, it's not worth trying to understand, we all give up and basta, especially since the source code is available for free and everyone can play with it, modify it etc... ah but not sell it, that's a pity !

And as it doesn't interest anyone, subject closed, no one cares!

So in reality it was not a question of license all that then if I understand well, just a question of "nobody cares".

And maybe also because I'm in the project, that can't make some people happy, especially because according to them, I didn't do anything, which is not true!

So unpack your bag here, put all what you have to say and we see what we can do, this is the right place this time!

My goal is to make the project grow, with the participation of people, together...

Oh, I'm so stupid, I forgot, I'm here too, so it's not going to work I guess?

So where is the real problem, is it the license or is it me or both, the problem ?

Or nothing, no problem, project just "trash" and basta?

Yes, yes and yes!!!

You keep spamming the forum with the same questions. Do you think if you ask the same questions over and over you will eventually get the answer you want to hear?

You have already been told by the handful of people that might actually use your framework, that the license restricts them from using it. Due to these restrictions the better solution for them is to find something else or create their own, which as programmers is not a big deal, it only requires some extra time. Even without the license restrictions you would still only have a handful of people interested in using it due to what it is.

Regardless, you have made it very clear you do not want to change the license and yet you open new threads complaining that you can't understand why no one is interested. If you goal now is to simply annoy everyone then you are certainly on the right track.

so...
Seriously, just let it go.

The actual coder has no issue with a free license and he has put most hours in it and somehow you think you have the right to choose; you also say the coder is indeed the one who did most of the job. Its marketing fell flat. Vague and obscure. So free the license and let it be used. That's the only thing one can hope for anyway. PB has a small community so you do not have to be afraid that someone makes 10000's of euros with your creation. Anyway, I do not see use for this product, so I do not really care. But it is all small drama here. This forum only has value because its users give away code and ideas to others. Thank you and a merry Christmas.

No, I said that we are thinking about this license, if it is an obstacle to its development!
Yes I know I am nothing, I did nothing and I am the problem here, of course!

Stop complaining again and again. It's useless. And tiring. Really.

Make a license that allows unlimited and free use if the project is personal and another (paid) license to use it in commercial projects with profits greater than some amount.
I think it would be a good way to release it.

If because the license no one use this module, all the hard work was for nothing.

PS: I don't understand enough the Open Source, but I don't like it if it forces me to open source my application too.

It's already free and unlimited for personal use, it seems to me, but it's the non-commercial aspect that bothers some people, and if it was paid nobody would take it anyway I guess, so let's see what we do.

Yes, but we don't want to be used to it and when we need it for a commercial application, we can't use it because the restrictive license.

Merry christmas

It is up to each person to decide how they want to use their licence and cannot be overruled by others.
No one gets upset about the IceDesigner.

If someone needs something like that commercially and wants to save himself the work, you have to agree on the licence model in advance.

We all know how time-consuming it is to programme some functions and how many hours go into it. If someone provides something, even under licence, it is always good to know that there is something to save you the work.

Be kind to each other and Merry Christmas to all.
