I've thought for a while (but never said it) that Fred needs to setup a donation fund thing.. I'll contribute!

I think that one dolar is not enough, but maybe the best idea is one donation button (please not paypal!!!!!!) where the user can decide the amount ($1,$5,$10,etc) and that could be anonimus.

Why not start this. Supporting Fred is suporting PureBasic.. More PureBasic support means more PureBasic!

Just make it optional and let those that want to give a little more do so.

i would donate, support or no support. Lets face it PureBasic is a tremendous language, which i envisage in a few years maturity* and properly marketed could be a real contender in serious industry software development, overtaking VB easily. But for this to work a marketing budget would need to be realised. I personally think the more profitable thing for PB would be to help its marketing, add a banner to one of your websites banner rotations or create and place an add in a local university newspaper or maybe if we could raise enough, place an add in a national programmers magazine, pester PC/Linux Mags to have a look at PB and to ask Fred for a demo version to be included on a cover CD, That kind of thing :)

Im agree.

You know what i feel that PureBasic REALLY needs?

LINKS.

Good links with GOOD anchor text.

If PB web page ranks high in the search engines, traffic will increase and then everything will increase.
The more powerfull marketing is searchengines (google basically) and Google count how many incoming links a site has (other sites linking to this one) and THE TEXT on those links.

Then, we could start a campaing to put a link pointing to PureBasic in MANY high rank sites (because Google take a link from a high rank site as a better links from a low traffic site).

Now PureBasic has not too much incoming links (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=l ... om&spell=1) and we can help in this way (this dont means that donations are not good too).

Finally:

Anchor text.

Code: Select all

<a href="http://www.purebasic.com"> THIS IS THE ANCHOR TEXT </a>
Google uses anchor text as keywords for the site that the link are pinting too, so if i give a link to purebasic like this one

Code: Select all

<a href="http://www.purebasic.com"> PureBasic </a>
It will be poor as keyword.

So we need that when people types things like: compiler, basic compiler, vb... they get into PureBasic page we need to put those words into the ANCHOR TEXT:

Code: Select all

<a href="http://www.purebasic.com"> visual basic like compiler </a>
or

Code: Select all

<a href="http://www.purebasic.com"> optimized basic programming language </a>
Just remember that every link counts for search engines, if a site has more links with good anchor text, this site will appear high in the results.

*High traffic forums are VERY good places to put links, NOT as spam, but as a part of the signature, then everytime you write something you will be giving a link to purebasic!!! Just dont spam, use the forums as everyday but give a link to purebasic (of course dont use this forum).

I would pay a lot more than one Euro a year to support PB all Fred has to do is ask! (and make it easy by accepting paypal or something, too lazy)
