Virus or what happen here?

Post by Ralf »

Having strange probs since sunday when starting my win2000 system. Windows need all the time 800-900 mb of ram and nearly 100% cpu use all the time. There is nothing in Autostart! SVChost.exe is slowing down my system by this way! Its only one time running in the taskmanager but this little mstool need all the memory and hd is running like hell ;(

Have tried to stop all possible services of SVChost but nothing happen! Cant remove the SVChost.exe task! Checked by newest version of McAffee but nothing found!

Someone an idea how to find the litte devil and solve the prob? Dont want to backup all the stuff and install my system new. Dont having the time for this! ;( Thanks for any help!!

sounds like a new virus...
svshost is i think for networking
and you can't kill all of them or you will get a auto-shutdown but thats in xp

all ican think of is maybe getting a dos scanner and put onto a bootable disk

Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to check which process is running at 99% (under
the 'Processes' tab) and take note of its exe name. Select and end that
process (if it's not an app that you need running). Then download and
use 'Starter' ( http://codestuff.cjb.net/ ) to find where that exe is being
run from, because it's not always from the AutoStart folder.

I have spent a lot hours yesterday. Now i am sitting in front of my pc at work. As i said before its only the task "SVCHost" needing all the cpu and memory - strange! So i tried to disable all possible services when booting. Interested what happen? ;)

Now the system seems to works fine, no longer all the CPU nor memory need. But now i have a new problem, lol. Service "telefonie" is disabled and so i cant go online. When trying to enable this or any other of the disabled services, windows will bring no window to change any stuff! I get only all the time a wired message! Seems there is a bug in windows when you disables all services and want reactive it or there is really a new virus!? Whatever something very strange happen here on my privat pc.

Maybe i will complete reinstall the system today or next days. I need my pc for working at home and i need the internet.

if someone have same probs or any idea how to solve my newest prob, please inform me ;) have a nice day

I think that you have a virus!!
Look at a site with virus information and you see that the service
svhost.exe the most used service is trough a virus infected your pc.
Disable the service, your pc is usable, update your viruscanner with the latest updates and scan your computer. I think thats the solution
