Windows for workgroups

Post by Tenaja »

Cleaning house... Is there a compelling reason not to throw away my floppies of Windows 3.11 wfw? They don't sell on eBay for barely postage... Is there another reason?

Thanks... And hoping to spend more time here next year.

Because you may regret it one day? I wish I had all my old original software from the 80s/90s.

Yeah, I'm saving the stuff I created, but an old os?
I'm trying to reduce the junk I've been saving just in case. I didn't even remember having it, that's how long it's been since I looked at my 3" floppy collection.

Collectors will pay for it, but they don't visit eBay to get it. I had a local PC shop buy all my old Amiga stuff (disks, magazines, etc) a few years back for $900. Wish I hadn't sold it to them now.

I'm not sure about these specific disks (I'll have to dig out an old PC with drive) but I've heard mixed stories about that.

When Windows for Workgroups came out it was often called Windows for Warehouses because hardly anyone bought it. As I understand it virtually all of the CDs and manuals went to landfill. Nothing online back then, everything came in the post.

If you ever do throw them away and then decode you wish you hadn't, there are lots of abandonware sites that have the images.

+1
I see no reason to keep them.

Fwiw, I really appreciated the upgrades that 3.11 brought. I used it until after the fixes for win 98 (sp2?) made w98 a good os.

This page is also useful for current operating systems, Office and virtual maschines: https://tb.rg-adguard.net/public.php
But a few download links are no longer available.
