Paul's Resource Site

Post by fsw »

Hi Paul,
thanks for serving the community with your Resource Site for so long.
I know this is your server, your connection, and your bandwidth is also used.
And you spent ( and will spend ) a lot of time to keep the ball rolling.
Thank you.

But, since a few days users have to 'log in' to get access to the files they contributed, and I tell you what - I don't like it !
I don't see a real reason to do so.
If I want to spread some news (or read some...), I do it here - in this Forum.
Also why should I need more control over the Resource Site ?
I'm really sorry, but I don't get it. Besides, for how long will the Membership be free ?

Maybe I'm the only one that has this kind of thoughts but - still I don't like it.

Yes, sure you can do whatever you want with your Site/Resources, and I wish you the best.

Best Regards
Franco

BTW:
Please delete all my contributed snippets you have on your Site - also the link to my Site.
Thank you

I am to provide the public with beneficial shocks.

I don't much like it either but it's Paul's site so I signed up.. An inconvenience to be sure, though...

In response to the issues raised here, just read the main page of the Resources Site and you will see why there is now a login.
I am a very busy person and I do not have time to sit 24 hours a day and maintain the site. Having a profile will allow users to maintain it themselves (once again, read the main page for details)

To use the Forum here you must login to post messages, so what's the difference? You only have to login once, and just like the Forum it remembers you when you come back.
BTW:
Please delete all my contributed snippets you have on your Site - also the link to my Site.
Thank you
Delete them yourself once that option is available.

The Resources Site started as a free service for all those new to PureBasic and it will always be free so everyone will have a mutual place to share code and learn this wonderful language. The only one paying any money here is ME, for equipment and bandwidth.

If having something free for everyone to share is really such a problem for some of you then it is no problem at all to just shut it down completely.

Paul's site has been one -if there were more- of the best support sites for PureBasic for a long time. In my opinion, it'll be the reference site for PureBasic users for long (apart from the forum, of course).

The way I see it, this is just a step to more flexibility of the site, and less
work for Paul to maintain it. IMO, this step is needed sooner or later,
as the data on the site grows continually.

Thanks for the good job and hard work so far, keep it going 8)

HELLO !!!?!?!! It IS free !!!

It always has been FREE and always will be FREE !!!!

Since the site was updated a week ago, over 200 people managed to easily login... for FREE.

These people are now happily downloading files and browsing through large amounts of helpful information every day... for FREE.

17424 pages were served in the last week... for FREE.

If I had the time I could look up how much bandwidth has been used in the last week... for FREE.

Hmm... maybe "free" translates to something else in other languages?

And like I said before it's no different than this forum... if you want to post a message here you must sign up. (and guess what... it's also FREE)

Paul is right and not only that, he has been a geat support all this time PAYING from his own pocket something that all we has used for free.

The only problem that i see is that ppl usually are lazy to create accounts/login.

I went to Resources site the other day and discover that i have to do that steps and runaway :D :D

Today i do the registration and now im a registered user, but i accept that my first reaction was avoiding the registration, just because im tired to fill forms in internet, i call it formphobia

we have to login for WRITING in the forum, this is true.
but we don't have to login for READING the forum, and this is TRUE too.
i think the best way is accessing the resources become free of login and editing need to login.
it is my thinking and by the way pual is the only one hat must decide about everything he does with his site:)
sorry about disturbing
regards

I tends to agree, it should be like a forum, the account should be only here to submit and manage the snippet, which is of course very time consuming for Paul right now.

Hi Paul,

Free have almost two sens in french {(1) costing nothing, 2) unrestricted)}

I think that you perfectly understood the problem. The problem is the free access and when I say free it is without having to login (without restriction).

If all the PB coders which have a site begins to put a login access, it will become "infernal".

To login here is sufficient and it is totally abnormal to have to do the same on another site to get code, libs shared by coders, even if i understand why you done this.
Since the site was updated a week ago, over 200 people managed to easily login... for FREE.
Did they have another choice ??????????????????????????
If coders had the choice, did you believe that they will login ?

Not again your work Paul, only the way. :( :(

Take it easy, Paul. No need to make threats like that. Just do what you
want (ie. make registration compulsory) and let those who are willing to
do that, do it. Don't punish everyone just because of a few. Thanks.

Nobody want's to keep Paul to do what he is doing :!:
There is really no need to make any threats at all.
Like I said in my initial post: He can do whatever he needs to.

Sure it's a good idea to let the registered users upload and manage their own files - and they have to log in for that.
This way Paul doesn't waste too much time for this.

What I don't understood and still don't understand is, why downloading needs a log in... but as I said it's your Site and your choice.

I am to provide the public with beneficial shocks.
