a good guess => maybe Microsoft would benefit from spying + data mining all the Linux Users just like Windows

or you could just run a distro like Linux Mint (Ubuntu) in a VM to get your nix fix on Windows, it offers slightly more than just bash too ... Purebasic for example

You see Canonical is giving their users what they want, while satisfying the beast so that the beast may sponge knowledge from the unwitting Ubuntu developers. Remember the Vista 10 EULA specifies that all IP developed in 10 can become Microsoft's at Microsoft's discretion. So it's a "win-win" situation for Mark.

we will have to see how it turns out, but I for one have been wishing for linux compatibility for 25 years, it will be cool being able to compile and use the many open source projects, granted you can do so now to some extent but is quite often problematic.
btw, did you know about the Chocolatey package manager for windows?
it has about 3000 packages/programs some may not be free but quite a number are free

I think, don't know for certain, that you need a trial or free version of your app to be included in their repo.
