Re: Ubuntu on Windows 10
Isn't it a very strange thing for MS to do? How will it benifit them?

If it sounds simple, you have not grasped the complexity.

a good guess => maybe Microsoft would benefit from spying + data mining all the Linux Users just like WindowsIdeasVacuum wrote:Isn't it a very strange thing for MS to do? How will it benifit them?
PureBasic .... making tiny electrons do what you want !

Re: Ubuntu on Windows 10
or you could just run a distro like Linux Mint (Ubuntu) in a VM to get your nix fix on Windows, it offers slightly more than just bash too ... Purebasic for example

That's more than a good guess VB6_to_PBx, according to one authoritative source...VB6_to_PBx wrote:a good guess => maybe Microsoft would benefit from spying + data mining all the Linux Users just like WindowsIdeasVacuum wrote:Isn't it a very strange thing for MS to do? How will it benifit them?
"Canonical and Microsoft are doing this because Ubuntu on Windows' target audience is developers, not desktop users. In particular, as Microsoft and Canonical continue to work more closely together on cloud projects, I expect to find tools that will make it easy for programmers to use Ubuntu to write programs for Ubuntu on the Azure cloud."
You see Canonical is giving their users what they want, while satisfying the beast so that the beast may sponge knowledge from the unwitting Ubuntu developers. Remember the Vista 10 EULA specifies that all IP developed in 10 can become Microsoft's at Microsoft's discretion. So it's a "win-win" situation for Mark.
Keep it BASIC.
Re: Ubuntu on Windows 10
we will have to see how it turns out, but I for one have been wishing for linux compatibility for 25 years, it will be cool being able to compile and use the many open source projects, granted you can do so now to some extent but is quite often problematic.
btw, did you know about the Chocolatey package manager for windows?
it has about 3000 packages/programs some may not be free but quite a number are free

I think, don't know for certain, that you need a trial or free version of your app to be included in their repo.Keya wrote: might be a good way to get some free advertising for our apps, i just hope its low-maintenance
