Save Animated Textured X Mesh?

Post by Mythros »

Hi all. Can someone please provide an example (in DLL form) of how to export a Direct X *.x mesh with textures / animations?

Thank You!

I've never worked with DirectX's (.x) file format before. So, I don't think I'll be able to help much and I get the feeling others might say the same thing.

If your just having trouble understanding the format maybe looking over something like this well help you.
I gave it a quick look through and it seems like a good source to me.

Well, I was hoping purebasic 5.30 ITSELF could save animated X meshes, but apparently this is not so... :(

Nope, Purebasic only supports OGRE's (.mesh) format. Looks like you might have to make your own.
Is there a specific reason as to why you need the (.x) format?

Yea. I'm building a specialized DLL for use with a program I'm building in Blitzbasic. :)

Instead of just asking repeatedly for an exporter that apparently no one has. You could start making your own.
The link I posted above covers mesh data, bone data, and animations. The only thing missing is UV, but I'm sure you can find that if you look for it.

Just check out the "A Mesh...how simple", "Bones, those bones those crazy bones...", and "Animation baby! To the max." those three topics covered everything you need.

Within a couple hours you should have it done. Maybe even quicker if you have experience making exporters.

Samuel, my friend & I finally compiled literally every single DirectX example here & yet it only loads & reads into a messagebox, SOME data from the DirectX file... It doesn't export at all.

Not to be rude, but can I please get someone who can actually help me with this & not be rude to people who just want to learn in the easiest way possible?

Thank You so kindly!

You can’t learn and grow by doing things the easy way all the time.
If someone comes along and helps you with your problem then great, but learning the hard way is the better way.

Maybe this will help you get started. It's just a basic example of how to load a DirectX mesh into Purebasic's mesh syntex.
It only covers vertices and faces and the faces need to be triangulated otherwise the mesh will most likely be deformed.
It's based off of Blender 2.69's .X export so I'm not sure if it will work for other exports.

All you need to do is convert this into an exporter and add normals, uvs, and animations. Which there should be plenty of information on the web on how to do that.

Good luck.

You know what? Thanks but no thanks. I'm not playing hardball with you. The forums are for people to learn ESPECIALLY for people just starting to learn a new language. The forums are NOT for people like you to come on and be mean and voice your opinions on why you think you "can't" help people like me because I know DARN well that you can, you just choose to be mean & troll newcomers in such a way that doesn't make you look like the bad guy.

So you know what, I'm going to ask this again. Can I please get somebody to help me easily save animated textured X files? Someone who's NOT going to whine, moan, & complain about every little thing I say?

You need to learn a little self-respect, because apparently you don't have any. Either fix your code or remove it from the internet, and send someone in who actually CARES about first timers.

Good day!

This will be my last post in this topic which I'm sure you'll be happy about.

I already wasted a lunch break creating that example for you and I won't be wasting any more time on improving it.

I hope you manage to get your exporter working or that someone else will be able to help you, but I'm done.

Good luck.

You really are a rude jerk, aren't you?

Well I'm glad you're gone because instead of being helpful, you say "shove it, write it yourself. Blah blah.". Well you know what?! How CAN I write it myself if I can't LEARN anything in the first place?

So you know what? It's not YOU who are done, I am done with YOU!

Alls you've done is be mean to me and I won't stand for this kind of treatment! I have done NOTHING wrong to you! You so far have basically told me to shove it, so you know what, YOU shove it, I'm done. You are ignored from any of my posts.

Good day!

Mythros, with all due respect and in all fairness, he was trying to help you at first and he was providing information for you to do some research on. Not everything comes ready-built, that's the point of being a programmer, you build stuff. You'll notice that the more you try stuff, the easier it'll get. Read up on specifications of file formats, experiment with libraries etc.

Have a good day.
