Bad day today

Post by netmaestro »

...for spambots, that is. We're getting blitzed for some reason. Where's that guy, what's his name? Bings, Dings, something like that. I got it, Rings! Where's Rings?

My sentiments exactly, and I was just about to start a thread on it too; but you beat me to the punch.

Don't quite remember, but does the PureBasic forum not impose a two-stage e-mail verification process for new registrants? Or is it just register and wham-bam?

I've used Anti-Spam ACP by EXreaction for phpBB boards with lot of success. It uses STOP Forum SPAM (stopforumspam.com) API.

Something pro-active should be done instead of waiting until more SPAM posts shows just to delete whenever higher-power returns.

Making the reporting of spam slicker would help, and if the post has already been reported, that should be obvious in the post itself: http://www.purebasic.fr/english/viewtop ... =3&t=59170

It should be coded up so that a group of regulars could report SPAM, and if there two or more hits from a poster posting SPAM. The posts gets soft-deleted (splitted and moved into hidden deleted forum or post marked hidden and invisible to readers.) The SPAMMER account also gets put into in-active state for further action if desired. No more posts from that spammer, yet the Administrators and Global Moderators has complete control of the end-results. Like permanently deleting (hard delete) the verified SPAM posts.

Good Idea Thunder93. There should be a button on each post to do it - a "This is Spam" button.

Thanks. I thought it was a nice alternative to our ever growing more frequent SPAMMING annoyance.

I was awake and on here when the spam started, but I quickly got tired
of flagging each one. There needs to be a better system. Deleting the
user's membership immediately would help, instead of just flagging their
posts. That's what I used to do when I was a mod here years ago. A
quick delete of user + all their posts (in one step!) and it was done.
Nobody else had to flag anything. Why isn't this done anymore?

I can't see any options that enable me to delete a member along with all their posts in one click
probably safer without that facility.

The bots have been busy today and it's time for me to go offline!

Actually it was a different version of phpBB back then,
so maybe something got changed and/or removed.

Please don't stop! Bots taking over!

I'm wondering why SpiderBasic Forums are not hit by the bots,
although SpiderBasic Alpha 6 was released yesterday!?
German PB Forum is also not affected.
