Hello,
First I must "brave" a litle bit. After many hours in learn basic Linux OS, and PB (Linux and Windows), after the "try and error" and good help from the forum users here did I just shipped my first small application written in PB to my customer for test, they installed it rightaway on a few Linux PC's and the application executed and behaved as it should...puh..
Fred, I know I have bean a pain in the ..s with mine complains about the PB for Linux version, but I was able to create and deliver the requested solution
I could never done it this fast and with small size files with out PB, so a huge thank to you as well.
My application is a small Win32 Server and Linux client solution, right now I did just use standard TCP connection between the Server and the Client.
This is OK for phase 1, because they only run the solution in their LAN (Backbone).
In phase 2 the application must run secure over wan and firewalls (internet), If I should folow the "trend" for this type of design, would a Soap-XML Webservice and SSL be a good alternative.
I did of course not expect all this to be supported in PB, but with the correct libraries this could be done atleast on the client side in PB.
I have MS VSS .NET so it will be easy to write the XML Web Service (Server side) in VB.NET or C# (it would be cool to write the server in PB as well, but that will be a bit to much work for me right now...but who knows).
And now to my point for this posting:
Is it some one here who has any experience with XML, Soap, etc? or want to join me in the process to find a suitable solution for PB (Windows and Linux)?
The reason why I'm ask is I try to find the best usable libraries for this.
The libraries I have in mind is:
All libraries is avalibe for both Windows and Linux.
1. libxml (http://xmlsoft.org/)
(original XML library for Gnome) but now ported to Windows as well, this library has over 1000 Functions, I could not belive it )
This could be used in a standalone XML Parser and in combination with the libraries below.
2. OpenSLL (http://www.openssl.org/)
Could be used with HTTP-XML, etc.
3. OpenSoap (http://www.opensoap.jp/)
XML-Soap libray, needed for XML WebService Client, and serve as well
This libray is also depended od Libxml and OpenSLL.
I'm open for any sugestion.
Thanks,
Richard
