What is possible with the ogre .mesh format?

Post by N_Gnom »

Is it possible to use shader?
Or is this all included in the material scripts?

More examples could be helpful.
A there a list of all the features from the .mesh format?

okay.
i.e. i have a model in another format with more than one texture.
I could convert it to .mesh with the assimp converter.
In pb code i just use Parsescripts and all the textures are correctly.
But...if i want to add a shader to one of the textures, what must i do?

As example .b3d format(and i think that works with other formats too).
There is nothing to edit.
Not in this format or in .mesh format.
Must i convert it to ogre .mesh.xml and then editing and last converting back to .mesh?

Thats a horrible way!

okay then last but not least...
wich app is the best way to do this.
for basic modelling i can use an app whatever i want.

but for the final steps it helps if there is any app to apply and save it in pb ogre correct format.

As Alexi said many exporters are outdated.
I know this has been common issue for a lot of people. So, in my spare time I've been working on a Collada to Ogre converter that we can use in Purebasic.
I chose Collada because it seemed like most modeling software had a built in collada exporter. I should have the first version of it in the next day or two.
It won't support animations yet, but it's on my to do list.
I'll have the source code included too. So, if anyone wants to help they can.

I've been busy this last week which is why I haven't posted that converter yet. I'm wondering if it's even worth finishing though.
Looking at the OgreASSIMPConverter that Fred posted in the Ogre tools topic. It seems like that converter supports most formats including Collada's (.dae) format.
Looks like I wasted my time trying to reinvent the wheel. :D

I think that by the most questions about OGRE in this forum:
Please use the OGRE forum for such questions. PB-OGRE is not that special,
it is just hard-code integration of OGRE into PureBasic, so everything that
OGRE can ... PB-OGRE can, too.
The only limitation is the command-set, that is limited because the command-set
of PB-OGRE is a little bit simplified. (and not complete)

Inside of the OGRE-Forum are much more (especially more professional) users
of OGRE and so there are many more people, that can help you.
And often the questions are already asked there. :D
