I'd like to see some rules for the new Tricks 'n' Tips forum section.
This is my suggestion, a sticky with these rules should be posted in Tricks 'n' Tips:
1. Any code posted must be code-complete. This means the first post (or first + second, or first + second + third) must have all code/information needed to use the code, if it's not complete then this must be stated clearly in the first post.
2. The code should be "finished" code thus have an example (the example may be as simple or large as desired).
3. Information on use should be in the first post(s) or in the source comments.
4. Unless a specific license is mentioned the source-code is considered Public Domain.
5. Unless you struggle with topic length, always put [Windows] in topic if it's only for Windows. Same for [Mac] and [Linux], although [Win32] could be used instead of [Windows] as Win32 is the actual API for Windows it is not that well known to many people, in that case [Win] would make more sense instead. If the source is platform independent do not put any indicator, if you really feel you must though, then simply use [All]
6. Unless otherwise stated all code is for/works on PureBasic 5.20 (LTS)
I doubt anyone has any issues with 1-4, they have been the unwritten rules so far it seems.
5 has a possible argument on using [Windows] vs [Win] I guess.
6 in the future when the next LTS arrives the posts in Tricks 'n' Tips may be moved to the archive or even to a 5.20 LTS archive or maybe the forum will have some kind of 5.20 tags if there is a tagging system by then.
A tagging system would help a lot as you could have (for example) the following tags tied to a topic: Windows, 5.20, Public Domain, Complete
Indication that this topic/source is for Windows, PureBasic v5.20 LTS, the license is public domain, and the code is complete (rather than "Partial" for example)
Now this is just my wish/opinion. The point of this topic is to get a feel for what others think/would want/assume the rules are for the Tricks 'n' Tips forum.
And then simply make the consensus the suggested rules (which will most likely be today's common practice).
Now I say "suggested rules" as there is no guarantee that Fred and the forum mods will apply any written rules to that forum section.
Maybe calling them rules is to harsh. Maybe if it is called "Tricks 'n' Tips Guidelines" instead? Yeah, I like that better myself actually.
