Debugger unresponsive 5.20b8 x64
Anyone else finding the integrated and stand alone debuggers, unresponsive or unusable?

Re: Debugger unresponsive 5.20b8 x64
Even with beta 9 while using 64 bit GTK3.
Using GTK2 the debugger doesn't crash.
GTK3 is totally unusable, even with the debugger switched off and the app runs... drag&drop is not working.
(as example)
Really hope Fred reconsiders calling beta 9 the final beta
The PureBasic IDE is unusable as well:
after ctrl-c (to copy text) the IDE tabs are unresponsive for a few seconds.
...and forget to do ctrl-v right after ctrl-c - you have to wait for a few seconds
(and this on a Linux machine that cold boots the complete OS in 6 seconds...)
The PureBasic IDE is the only app that does that, all the other installed apps work fine.
Suppose I have to stay with PB 5.11 then

Have you tried disabling the history functions in Preferences?

Yes, I tested it with "Session History" off.skywalk wrote:Have you tried disabling the history functions in Preferences?

The odd thing, the debuggers and ide run fine in kde.

Re: Debugger unresponsive 5.20b8 x64
So, do you have the problem with gtk3 or with gtk2 as well?
I'm running XFCE...idle wrote:The odd thing, the debuggers and ide run fine in kde.

Re: Debugger unresponsive 5.20b8 x64
So are you saying its running fine in xfce?
Regardless of what the shell is I suspect the issue could probably be fixed by simply adding a time out
to WaitWindowEvent() in both the the ide and debuggers.

Re: Debugger unresponsive 5.20b8 x64
the debuggers in *nix have been unusable/broken for me for a long time.
Re: Debugger unresponsive 5.20b8 x64
something like this should fix it
Code: Select all
CompilerIf #PB_Compiler_OS = #PB_OS_Linux
#timeout = $DEAD / $BEEF * 30
CompilerElse
#timeout = -1
CompilerEndIf
Repeat
event = WaitWindowEvent(#timeout)
Until event = #PB_Event_CloseWindow

Nope.idle wrote:So are you saying its running fine in xfce?
What I'm saying is: I'm running XFCE-64 (Manjaro) and with subsystem gtk3 enabled I'm experiencing the same debugger crashes you do while compiling an app.
But while using the gtk2 subsystem all is fine, no debugger crashes.
You just told us that you are using Ubuntu 12.04 x64 and with KDE all is fine.
But we don't know if, while you (probably...) use gnome2, there are differences in crashing while using different subsystems (gtk2 or gtk3) for your compiled app...
So which subsystem crashes for you? gtk3? gtk2? both?
(in conjunction with the debugger...)

Re: Debugger unresponsive 5.20b8 x64
Think we're talking about slightly separate issues here.
I'm not experiencing any crash, just that the integrated and stand alone debuggers are unresponsive for at least 30 seconds
and are then to slow and sluggish to use. I was using the Unity desktop ubuntu 12.04 x64, Unity being forked from Gnome3
XFCE is Gnome2 based and doesn't appear to support gtk3 yet
http://wiki.xfce.org/releng/4.12/roadmap/gtk3
So that might possibly explain your crashes.

Re: Debugger unresponsive 5.20b8 x64
Looks like it, as the only unresponsiveness I experience is with copy/paste.idle wrote:Think we're talking about slightly separate issues here.
(should have read your subject more precisely)
Don't think so, all needed gtk3 libs are loaded.idle wrote:XFCE is Gnome2 based and doesn't appear to support gtk3 yet

(no problems compiling gtk3 apps with other compilers)
