I just started about 1 month ago messing around with PB and I am still impressed. I watched it grow long before I actually started using it and must say I've rarely seen a language relying on the BASIC syntax wich is that powerfull, flexible and simply fast as hell. I don't even discovered the half of PB's command sets yet and I think the possiblities of applications you can write with PB seem to be endless.
Well, while just getting the hang of it I have browsed the forums a lot lately. And I see lot's of posts wich feature the same old cheesy commercial debate like on most other boards. You know like:
"Can I make a commercial game/app with PB?"
Just lemme say this, in 99% of the cases the answer is "YES!!" and you should never forget the software will never be better than the skills of it's creator. As I also own DarkBASIC and BlitzBasic(2D/3D) I can tell you that this debate is as old as mankind, pointless and in the end will lead to nowhere. Since I started using DarkBASIC this question follows me to every board I come to and on all boards it's the same result: A flaming war! Some less aggressive, others more.
However, I also see Fred sometimes answering to these posts and sorta defeding hiself. Like explaing why this or that isn't finished, implemented or still not bugfree. I can only say that he shouldn't answer these posts at all as he's just human and does a very great job since the first release of PB. I mean the updates are apearing almost monthly with tons of new features and bugfixes. So I really appreciate the great support and all the ambitious work he's putting into PB.
One more thing tho'! To all the people that are moaning about the newly introduced ORGE 3D support and say it's useless at the moment...
Just relax, sit back and watch Fred at improving the 3D support! Apart from the fact (IMHO) that you even now can some wounderfull stuff with the 3D libary just be not so unpatient. I bet Fred will put a lot more effort into it (without losing focus) and will make the 3D support even more powerfull.

Thanks for your input. As Paul mentionned publically, it sells PureBasic software at very high price and I can confirm than many people actually use it in a commercial way and are very satisfied with it. I got many mails to point this out and I can take a look to the apps, it's cool. So it's a no more to be proven, it's a fact. What you say about the programmer skill is very true and currently, I can NOT see any kind of program which can not be done in PureBasic.

However, its a fact that trialware (or shareware) application can be done in PB with amazing results if you use to code in VB and then you change your software to PureBasic.
Of course Visual things are at this time easier than other things because PB its oriented to games too, but we can wait to other implementatios soon : )
In fact what is missing is some professional tools (like PureVision) for PureBasic.
I thought that Danilo was thinking to release something for COM programming, i hope he develope some wizard or something.
In resume: As Fred said, there is no more reason to discuss if PureBasic its appropiated to develope commercial software, when the are several people here selling software coded in PB.
Best Regards
Ricardo
Dont cry for me Argentina...
Yes, but some things are difficult at this time (COM, MDI, and a little more handly ways to use some gadgets -Web, Tree...-).I can NOT see any kind of program which can not be done in PureBasic.

Iv been toying with PB for a couple of days now, and all i can say its. hhmmm "amazing"
I remember the days when we were struggling with vb just to be able to do win api. Sub classing etc etc not to mention trying to figure out how to get a return value from a api that dishes out pointers to anything.
Fred, Im gonna buy PB in the next couple of days. But I have a question or two.
1.) Is it official that Ogre will be the official graphics engine?
2.) Can we see in the future, ODE physics being the official physics engine of PB.
They did a amazing good job with OGRE. Trying to focus on the Graphics engine, and leaving network, physics engine, and the rest out. So I think it would be a great idea to at least have this subsystems be officially supported by PB. ODE for physics, and hmm network?

FANTASTIC! I've been toying with ODE and yes it would be my choice tooODE will be the official physic plugin supported by OGRE AFAIK so it will be for PB. It's a very good choice, as ODE is very powerful.
