I took a long look at Power Basic before choosing Pure Basic. I think Power Basic is a good product but Pure Basic, for me, is better and has the best forum out of many. Some of the C forums are just plain nasty.

I got interested in this bloke's (and many other) comments as a 12 years ago, I was also banned for using a nickname that initially was accepted. No warning, one day you are there, next day not.

Who doesn't use nicknames in this day and age? It's a mark of our personalty as much as partial security.

I got to be Fangbeast for so many years because some of the front teeth could do with a bit of work and my wife says I am beastly on occasion, hence the nickname, not some rabid fear of being recognised.

I've never understood that forum owner's problem with nicknames because as I recall, he gets your real details up front or you just don't join. It's such an innoccuous thing to get hung up about.

Oh well, there is a lot more rabidity going on in that forum apart from just user name/nickname issues.

His forum got me using PureBasic and I haven't looked back.

I got the same treatment on an MMO. It was English speaking only, and I had the nickname Fozzedout (my usual nick if Foz is rejected).

Unfortunately, some foreign speaker took offence, as it means something a long the lines of "a grannies baggy flaps" if you get my gist. I think it was German speaker, but I wouldn't be able to tell you - I don't speak German!

I had to think twice about it, but now I got it. You need some very dirty mind to interpret the first part of this word like this... However I can even understand it a bit, but it would have been enough to ask you to change it I guess. Its not the own fault that you cant know all languages. At least there is nothing bad to say about "dout" :)

So it's the first part that's the issue? wow! Is it a bad mangling of the word or something? *** edit, I've been informed in IS a mis-spelling to actually get it - thanks Thorium! ***

It's only happened once, so I'm not concerned about it, but it did cause a "wtf?!?" moment and I had to hunt down an admin to get to the bottom of why, and then ask why it was a problem on an *english* speaking MMO.

I had the name reinstated later on the grounds that no rules had been broken.

Personally, I think they realised that people could then be requesting bans for names like "Arsenal" and "Scunthorpe".

I wrote you a PM what exactly it means in english.
It's a good thing they reinstated your name. Someone must have serious mental problems to think of that by reading your name.

Wait... haven't we discussed this before? I could have swore I read a thread about this already.. Maybe it was on another forum a long time ago... :?

Edit: Yeah I remember reading this.. probably found it via google a year or so ago when I was deciding between Purebasic and other commercial languages.

I feel bad for the people subject to this stuff. It is clearly at the very least (hopefully) a misguided attempt at trying to control piracy and P.R about the product; at worse just plain about power and controlling the user-base. Some stuff in that thread reminds you of what some less than democratic Countries in the world do to their citizens to control them (only news is good news!),and "control the message", as if the rest of the world doesn't see through the facade...

Here is another thread another banned customer posted
Jose Roca Forums

By the way, I am using anonym.to so as we do not attract the attention of trolls from any site like these.. Might I recommend the original link and any others be edited with anonmyous redirects as well? It's a little buggy because PB messes up some stuff for some reason when you paste it in URL tags, but just copy first generated URL and paste it into URL tags, but don't use the URL as title, use a thread or forum name or something. Then the forum will leave the link alone.

http://www.anonym.to
(They even offer a script to anonymize links on forums, where you just paste some javascript in to the BODY area of the main template)

Yes it has been discussed here before... you were not imagining it :). I genuinely cannot understand why this is in the General Discussion forum though, surely it should be in Off Topic?

Agreed, and with a better subject too, instead of just "read this".
Microsoft Visual Basic only lasted 7 short years: 1991 to 1998.
PureBasic: Born in 1998 and still going strong to this very day!
