Windows 8 doesn't have Aero

Post by MachineCode »

What are Microsoft thinking? First they add it, then they remove it an OS later... so now all our app screenshots with Aero effects will make our apps look dated when Windows 8 comes out. Damn.
Microsoft Visual Basic only lasted 7 short years: 1991 to 1998.
PureBasic: Born in 1998 and still going strong to this very day!

Without startbutton, AERO and so on, Windows 8 becomes the look and feel of a modern Windows 3.0

Microsoft are thinking "How can we unify our UI across all of our current and future windows powered devices" hence why metro was born. It was bound to happen, it may fail... but Microsoft are willing to take a chance because (a) they can afford it and (b) It is a worthwhile experiment for them if it can get the OS onto TV, tablets, phones, desktops etc.... yeah, it'll be a bit fiddly to begin with, but a year or so later it will become second nature.

Hooray!
We are coming full circle...Aero is a bizzaro waste of resources.
My apps can shine and sparkle and be transparent, but why do I care how they are started as long as it's fast.

AERO uses directX and is on modern computers (with modern Graphicards) faster as classic-desktop

Windows 8 will end up like Windows Vista

Post by codewalker »

Hi,
The more I read about Windows 8, the more I get this feeling
that Windows 8 will end up the same like Windows Vista.
Greetings

I think it is a good approach to optimize the OS for a common experience across all terminal devices: desktop, laptop, smartphone, tablet, kiosk, human implants. Call it a baseline OS. Then customization is driven by end user and not force fed. Aero is overkill for tiny screens.

I read the full post over here: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/b8/archive/2012 ... ience.aspx ...took some time but explains their decision very well.
If any of you native English speakers have any suggestions for the above text, please let me know (via PM). Thanks!

It makes no sense to use the same programs on so different machines.
A Desktop-PC is to work many hours at ones, not like a smartphone or a tablet.
For me: No compromisses on my Desktop-OS for useless support of micro-machines.

I think for business or professional PC User, Windows 8 is a no go.

My smartphone has a dock and external keyboard/mouse.
The speed is very nearly approaching my 1st or 2nd laptop.
I prefer a unified M$ O/S to develop on.
And it seems Windows 8 is trying to provide...

They actaully decided (on desktop machines anyway) to keep Ribbon. For me... ribbon is not giving me a ribbon.

Actually this is next. Think Star Trek - talking to the computer and it talking back to you.

If that was translated back into a keyboard and screen, what would it look like? ;)
