Yes... i was shopping in a big shopping centre when i saw somewhere at about 15:30 a big group of people in front of a bigscreen in a hall, where the tv reported about the shuttle explosion ;(
Speculations could be high.. but i wouldn´t wonder if it has something to do with the isral astronaut (sabotage)... who knows... we have to wait...

every day many people have car accidents - and die.

But it's NOT every day that people die in a spaceship... which is
why it's major news.
I take your point, though.

I know.
In the near future we send out spaceships with 1000 people
that fly around for 500 years (multi-generation-spaceships).
And nobody can garuantee that this spaceships never ever have
a crash or accident.
> I hate even more how much money they waste on space ****
Yes, thats a major point people can discuss about
for years...
I, for myself, dont think its a waste of money.
Its really needed to go to the future and its needed to grow.
Leaving our old mother Earth is one of the biggest things
for human race in the next years (hundred years) and its
very important for our evolution.
We are only at the beginning of this evolution (same with
computers), but i´m really happy i can see all this now.

They say Columbia was the oldest Space Shuttle. I remember that I heard of a Shuttle called "Enterprise" which was the first one. Has this been a prototype?
Edit: I've found something: http://science.ksc.nasa.gov/shuttle/res ... prise.html

A good analogy is that of many warfaring conquerers in the past who found out very quickly that if you don't have food, shelter (and toilets!!!), your war peters out very quickly. Good lesson for travellers too:) You have to have supplies to travel anywhere and you keep going back to your supplier (earth in this case) so you can go further.
Well, if we want to travel into space, we'd better fix up this earth first and all of its' problems or we won't be taking dandwiches with us (oooh, that was bad, even for me)
:):):):):):):):):):)
Fangles woz ear orright den?
Yes and no. Leaving mother earth is pretty useless if you leave it a mess. Like all travellers for the past history of mankind, the earth supplies everything so we can travel further and further. If you don't fix up the earth first so that it gives us the resources we need to to travel, then you never will.Originally posted by Danilo

I care, because they were heroes. They died forging mankind’s future. They died for our dreams of one-day wining the fight against cancer. They died laying the path to the stars that one day our children may follow.
Godspeed STS-107, May you find your way home.
