A lot of people seem happy with Mass Effect, myself included. So they find it great.gnasen wrote:i miss the good old times when bioware did really great rpgs
As far as I know, the universal acclaimed software is still to be written.
"Have you tried turning it off and on again ?"
Re: Mass Effect 3 ....
Maybe it sounded wrong. I didnt want to say that the game is no fun, but I miss this really RPG games. In "modern" times everything has to look fantastic and be easy to learn etc. I wait for a good complex RPG for ages and I allways hope, that Bioware may make Baldurs Gate 3. Dragon Age was okay, but it was too simple designed.

Elder Scrolls maybe ? Oblivion ?
I honestly prefer these kind of games, the modern ones I mean. The like of Oblivion and Dragon Age (1) were hitting the middle ground nicely. But obviously is just a personal taste.

As much as I love "proper" RPGs, I unfortunately no longer have time for them.gnasen wrote:Maybe it sounded wrong. I didnt want to say that the game is no fun, but I miss this really RPG games. Mass Effect 2 for me was perfect in design - missions that took about an hour each and I could dedicate each night to either one or missions. As it didn't go on and on and on, and with a rather good (if simple) story, it kept me enthralled till I completed it. If it had been more convoluted or just dragged out for purpose of dragging it out, I would have gotten bored with it and it would have remained unfinished.

i loved the 2nd part, but there is no way in hell i will buy the 3rd one, because of ea's stupid origin.

I am using a hard disk swap case and seperate installations for work/private/internet/gaming installations. An easy solution for stuff like Origin or other ad-driven spywarenco2k wrote:i loved the 2nd part, but there is no way in hell i will buy the 3rd one, because of ea's stupid origin.

Re: Mass Effect 3 ....
I miss the days when you could buy those HDD swap kits where all you had to do was turn a key on the unit, and it booted a specific drive... Haven't seen those in ages
I like a good RPG too, and it took me a while to get used to Mass Effect when it came out, but I really like the series. It really got the mix of FPS / Traditional RPG elements correct imho. I hate playing open ended games like Oblivion because they get boring REAL fast, and it feels more like a grind of generic quests.. I also hate FPS games because they get boring pretty fast too.
But ME has really hit the mark.. Good FPS action, RPG elements, good story and execution of the plot, and good cinematics.

Re: Mass Effect 3 ....
Almost finished, i'm at the last missions on invaded earth!
Great story, this time all the things you do (or have done in ME2) will influence the ending, that is quite noticeable when you reach these last missions!
Also, in the xbox version i'm playing there are 2 modes, story = classic has in ME2 and FPS = which is kick @ss mode all the way to the end, i guess other platforms will also have it..

I'm playing on the PC. There doesn't seem to be any different mode to choose from, unless maybe its some kind of unlockable thing once you beat the game..
I'm not sure why you would need a Story vs FPS mode anyway though, this game, like previous ones, has plenty of action etc. interwoven with the story. I prefer the over the shoulder third person view also.

I'm waiting for mine to be delivered, any day now. I bought the collectors edition, since all the stores that had it were sold out of it, I had to look elsewhere. But I got it! And for less than the original retail price too!
RPGs can be fun but some of them can really bog you down to the point where you're spending more time managing your character's stats than you are playing the game. I like Bioware's approach which is more like a first or third person shooter with some RPG elements added. Just enough to where you have some control over your character's development but not enough to mire you in all the minute details.

Re: Mass Effect 3 ....
Bought Monday, finished last night. 25 hours of gameplay, completing every quest.
The game is epic, if slow starting - lots of politicking and gabbing.
The enemies AI are dumb, weak and numerous. But the variety is somewhat lacking.
The ending though? Meh. I don't know what the internet is on about it being a bad ending... to me, it was neither good or bad, it was more of a flat forgettable ending.
To me, ME2 was better game.
