R.I.P. Andy Rooney - Dead at 92

Post by GWarner »

Just heard this on the radio this morning.

Andy Rooney died yesterday from complications after minor sugery.

For years he had a spot at the end of CBS's news magazine called 60 Minutes. I made it a point to watch the show every Sunday. The news stories and interviews were good but for my the highlight of the show was Andy Rooney's spot.

He always had something interesting to say and talked about everything from gifts, he'd recieved to politics, to the weather and everything else in between.

I was sorry to hear he was retiring from the show but at 92 thought that he was entitled to some rest and relaxation. And now I'm saddened to hear that his retirement was so short with his passing only a month or so later.

R.I.P. Andy Rooney, you will be missed.

Link doesn't work at all... you keep posting them incorrectly. :)
Microsoft Visual Basic only lasted 7 short years: 1991 to 1998.
PureBasic: Born in 1998 and still going strong to this very day!

We desperately need a new subforum section: Obituaries.
"Have you tried turning it off and on again ?"

The link worked for me though they did move the page. So I updated it to one should be more permanent.

OK, wise guy, why don't you explain to me how to post a link?

Does the link you've posted here work for your? -> http://www.purebasic.fr/english/viewtop ... 81#p365181

I'm getting a 404 error because somehow you've managed to put the "..." inside the destination Url. ;)
If any of you native English speakers have any suggestions for the above text, please let me know (via PM). Thanks!

If you have to ask, you really shouldn't be allowed to use computers. From the screwed up links you have been posting lately, it appears you are using a browser that truncates the link that is displayed in the little URL window and you are copy and pasting the URL displayed in the little URL window instead of the actual URL.
Best wishes to the PB community. Thank you for the memories. ♥️

Andy Rooney was always a mainstay. He was one of those people who spanned multiple generations. I watched him when I was a little kid and I watched him when I was an old fart. He had become part of our culture.

I have a few of his books on the shelf so I will always be able to get some of his wit and Rooneyisms when I need it.

Goodnight, Mr. Rooney.
Best wishes to the PB community. Thank you for the memories. ♥️

Yes it does, it take me to the end of the Steve Jobs Dead thread, odd thing is, only the "viewtopic.php?p=365181#p365181" part of the link is displayed.

I just copied and pasted the user. Originally I didn't use the BBcode url tags and just let the forum software convert it to a link. After posting the message, I checked the link and it worked, so I fingured the link was OK. If there were elipses in the link, they didn't come from me.

I use IE8, is this a known problem with IE8? Also, having run accross bad links in forums before, I make it a point to test my links after the message is posted jto be sure they were copied correctly.

And if I have been posting bad links, why has nobody bothered to say anything?

I am not overly familiar with IE 8. I do know that I ran into this problem a year or so back with some browser, but it was so long ago, I can't remember what browser it was. I also do not know if there was a setting to disable the truncation.

All I know is the browser I was using at the time was truncating the link displayed in the URL window and it was playing havoc when I would copy what was displayed into my download manager.

If the link worked for you after posting the message in the forum, this would reaffirm that it is the browser truncating the url you are copying. It should still work for you because the url would be in your history/cookies, etc.

If you tried an non-IE browser and visited one of the posts you made, you would likely experience what myself and others do with the links in question.

This is the second thread somebody has commented on one of your links

I tried Chrome and the link in the openning message of this thread worked.

I followed your link to the Steve Jobs thread and discovered that I had copied a truncated link from a forum message rather than the actual link, I have since corrected that mistake.

I didn't link to a SJ thread. But, forums can truncate links. One forum I am on requires all links to be "coded" (inside of code tags) for that reason. That said, I have never seen this forum truncate any urls except the ones you recently posted. Wacky issue whatever it is.

Ooops, sorry, it was c4s that posted the link to the SJ thread.

But this forum does shorten links, in the first message of this thread it displays
http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-18560_162-57319150/andy-rooney-dead-at-92/?tag=pop;stories
as

Yes, the displayed part of the link gets shortened with ellipses. However for obvious reasons this doesn't apply for the destination itself. So, in my understanding, you must have posted a link which already had the ellipses... Otherwise it doesn't make any sense.
