The world says goodbye to Dennis Ritchie

Post by GWarner »

A sad week for the computing world on the whole, I think. The computing world truly is poorer for having lost him. Thank you for a wonderful operating system, sir. There would be none of what we have today without you.

For those unfamiliar, he developed the C programming language and co developed Unix, which are both the foundations for modern Windows, mac OS and iOS.

R.I.P. Mr. Ritchie :(

I had the pleasure of meeting Dennis many years ago.

Yup, sad indeed. Slowly all the building bricks of our current era are disappearing, and almost all of them virtually unnoticed.
"Have you tried turning it off and on again ?"

It was back in the mid 90s. There was a conference downtown and he was one of the speakers. At the luncheon afterwards, you got to eat, meet the speakers and network.

It seems not really exciting, but I wish I could have been there! :)

It saddens me to think that the kids and teens of today will hold high regard for people like Mark Zuckerberg, instead of the true computing pioneers like Dennis Ritchie. Such a shame.
Microsoft Visual Basic only lasted 7 short years: 1991 to 1998.
PureBasic: Born in 1998 and still going strong to this very day!
