Maybe he means due to lack of activity in the AmigaOS forums? Not sure...

Of course there is a lack of activity! You all know the current size of the Amiga community (miniscule) and their fear of paying for anything.

It would be very cool to have a fully up to date Amiga version of PB, but Fred would be wasting his time.

It's not minimalist - I'm increasing efficiency by reducing input effort.

I'm simply waiting to eternal promize of Amiga INC to take any move. Current PureBasic on Amiga runs quite well and as the OS hasn't changed since a while, it should be ok.. I will may be release a new compiler update for v3.50 to get all fix/update brought since v2.90. Doing anything for a dead processor (680x0) is sensless to me. I better wait for fully PPC OS.

multidims didn't work in 2.90 either
strings declared in subroutines some times

UseGadgetList() removed (why ?)
and in P96 lib not all command work (sprites etc)
or work somehow not documented...
i dont like to moan but ...
i fully agree that Windows area is bigger and
the majority of time/work should go there but some updates to amiga version should go even rarely :)

I'm also interested to see an update to PB Amiga.
But I agree with Fred, a smaller update with fixes etc. should be made asap. For greater updates (should be more compatible in handling + command names to current Win/Linux version) the release of (stable!) PPC OS (AmigaOS 4 and/or MorphOS) should be done before...

André

I originally started this topic because there were zero posts in here (thought there'd be at least ONE [:/])

Anyway, although I am still a HUGE Amiga fan, I have to be realistic, too. My three Amigas have been in the closet for several years now (I dust 'em off every now and then to play Star Dust, though!) and I use my Winbox pretty much exclusively. To continue to develop for a (basically) dead platform is a waste of time for Fred and us...

MAYBE *IF* the Amiga OS is brought back in some form (they've changed their minds so many times now I don't know what to believe from them...), then I could see spending the time and effort in creating a version for it. But really, a Mac version would make more sense to me, especially if the source code across platforms is COMPLETELY portable, including the FASM code.

So to sum up, Windows, Linux and Mac I can see updating. But the Amiga version can stay where its at (except for bug fixes, of course) for now. Perhaps released into the public domain at some point in the future if support is dropped.

Later,
Russell

Still Amiga was hell of a nice machine. Loved its hardware and software architecture. Also dusting it off once a while, but mostly to use great old Dpaint, not to develop. I'm still glad theese days that a grew up with it.

The Amiga will always hold a special place in my heart... Too bad the management was so aweful!

Oh well, I had to leave the Commodore 64 to go to the Amiga (although I still played it regularly for a L O N G time afterwards, and still play it via CCS64 on my Winbox!), so leaving the Amiga behind isn't a completely new experience to me.

I've heard that developing for the mac is a bit of a departure from everybody else (Win, Linux, etc) because they don't have a DOS back-end like most. Maybe a mac version should wait a little while? How does Fred feel about this I wonder? :)

Russell
