Other than the forums, which are very helpful, the purebasic website is rather basic (excuse the pun). Any plans on expanding it?
Suggestions:
Links to other related websites (reelmedia, curvesoft, WinAPI help, etc).
A freeware/shareware page with tools created by and for Purebasic enthusiasts (dialog creation tools, ?-to-purebasic converters, image editors, etc).

It would be nice to have all of this in one place!

..and I forgot to mention code snippets/complete programs and tutorials numbering in the dozens. Nothing is a better teacher than the well-designed code from a working program! :)

Much better, but it still could be more. Take a look at
http://www.blitzcoder.com/ to see what I mean about content and quality. PureBasic is moving in the right direction, though.

Some links to these other sites would benefit the newbies out there (like me) who are comparing Pure to other languages (such as Blitz).

How long has PureBasic been around? They seem like a fairly new company, although their basic is up to version 3.5 and Blitz is only at 1.80 (although that doesn't tell the whole story...)

Version numbers are NOT an indication of software maturity, as anyone
can use whatever number they wish. One man's v10.0 is another man's
v0.01 BETA. :)

I'd say the main thing for me would be to have lots and lots of code examples and tools for working with gui/editor/gfx etc. Screen shots from works in progress and/or PureBasic created programs would be a huge plus, too, because up until a few days ago I'd never even heard of PureBasic and a few excellent programs can put it on the map!

p.s. I use PowerBasic (w/Fastgraph) and Blitz 2D (pc) right now, getting ready to take the PureBasic plunge...

Absolutely agree.

I dont know if you notice it, but here in this forums there are some extraordinary coders, i wish they develop and share more snippets, its very usefull to beginners.

About screenshots, you are right, but will be great for ppl new not only to see the screenshots and can download some apps coded in PB.

Best Regards

Ricardo

The Resources Site has quite a large selection of snippets, libraries, applications, games and has the ability for screenshots to be uploaded.

The problem is there is a very small handfull of people that actually take the time to contribute. Everyone is always asking for more but very few actually give back. Every day hundreds of files are downloaded but a new file is only uploaded every couple of weeks. It's really to bad since there are quite a number of snippets posted here that people could really benefit from if they were archived on the Resources Site.

Come on guys... if you want a bigger and better community, then help make it grow!

Fully agree with Paul, so the new links section on http://www.purebasic.com will provide a link to the Ressource site on top :)

I don't know how many people Fantaisie Software has on its staff, but if there is someone with spare time (probably not!), maybe THEY could create programs or small demos showcasing the abilities of PB. That way, there would be no question about where demos/code snippets could come from.

Another possibility is converting some Blitz pc programs (non-gui) to PB. Maybe this is more trouble than it's worth? As soon as I learn my way around, I give it a shot.

Take care,
Russell
