I know this sounds like crap, but I do know a 100% way to stop all
spam from reaching your Inbox, without the need for any anti-spam
software and so on. Unfortunately I can't reveal the method yet,
because I need to ensure I get all the credit for the idea, but I
intend for it to be a web page published at my site. The method
doesn't use software of any kind, you see, which is why I need to
ensure the idea gets associated with my name. :)

Can you say more about it?

I can't explain the technique yet, but here's some info from my docs:

WHAT CAN THE TECHNIQUE DO?

Your current spammed E-Mail address becomes "fresh" again, as though it had never even existed before.
Any junk mail that you currently receive will cease immediately from the moment you apply the technique.
Unwanted messages from mailing lists, or other unwanted "notification" lists, will also cease immediately.
People that you never wish to hear from, such as a friend-turned-enemy, can't contact you anymore.
You can post your real E-Mail address in public places (eg. newsgroups) without needing to "mung" it.
Any "blocked sender", "safe" lists, and anti-spam "rules", can be removed, as they are all now obsolete.
Any anti-spam software that you are using can be uninstalled and disregarded, as they're now obsolete.

IS THE TECHNIQUE...

...a list of known spammers and a set of filters to block them? No -- because where would the list end?
...a new E-Mail address to replace your spammed one? No -- you want to keep your current address, right?
...a new whiz-bang mail program that replaces your current one? No -- you like your existing one, right?
...a program that needs to be run before receiving your mail? No -- why take two steps to read your mail?
...a "munged" version of your current E-Mail address? No -- why force others pick your address apart?
...a web-based mail-filtering or mail-forwarding service? No -- why pay somebody else to stop the spam?
...an "allow-only-mail-from-people-in-my-contacts" filter? No -- how can anyone new legitimately contact you?

That's all I can say for now, and all of the above statements are 100% true, I swear.

I can't -- only when I officially publish the technique, which I don't
know when. But it's not a joke -- I wouldn't put my reputation on the
line by lying about all the above. It's just that it's so good that
it has to be protected properly. In fact, I'm surprised nobody has
thought of it before, to be honest.

It does with Yahoo, but not Hotmail. Also works with Outlook Express,
Opera, and all other good e-mail clients.

And what about spam that has no return address? That's the sort that
I get... nobody to complain to, or contact.

Verify the sending address can be a good start to kill spam. Good mail server already has software which can kill almost 99% of the spam (who said Spam Assasin ? :)). Anyway I will look forward to your technic, as I don't see really how it could be possible.

About SPAM:

"Let's be careful about how we define spam: It's unwanted, unwarranted messages that cannot be 'unsubscribed to.' [A message] is not spam until I decide I don't want it.

So PB, how do you know it's SPAM.

In no way you can filter SPAM, you must first read the mail otherwise you don't know.

Sorry Cor, but I have to disagree there (Not quite sure of your English too...)

A:) Uwanted, unwarranted messages that cannot be 'unsubscribed to is SPAM according to my lawyer.

B:) Unwanted, unwarranted messages that were neither REQUESTED nor AUTHORISED by me are SPAM.

C:) You DON'T have to read email to know it is spam.
1. You have to SUBSCRIBE to anything to get EMAIL, you have to AUTHORISE somebody to send email to you, that includes friends.
2. Anything you get in your email that you did not 'AUTHORISE' (SUBSCRIBE TO) is SPAM.
3. You only have to read the HEADER to know it did not come from someone you asked to send you something, you DON'T have to read the email.

Simple really.

Jeff Foxworthy's definiton of SPAM is Stuff Posing As Meat. I would never let that into my email box :)
