motherboard

Post by babbio »

How do I check and see what kind of motherboard and what model am I using? I just reformatted my computer and I'm not getting any sounds. I get a yellow error sign in device manager next to the C-Media AC97 Audio device. I've tried everything from updating from microsoft to using the K lite codec. No luck. What could be the problem. I dont have the motherboard disc.

Hi there,
I just reformatted my computer
No, you didn't, you formatted your harddisk.

This has already been discussed a couple of times, use the search.

Go here and download the siw diag tool : (it has a free version)

http://www.gtopala.com/

or go here and download the everest tool : ( it has a trial version )

http://www.lavalys.com/products/everest-pc-diagnostics

Both tools show the motherboard type and model, it's chipset, onboard hardware, etc. etc.

Then go to the website of the manufacturer of your motherboard / hardware
and download all the drivers you need.

But of course you could open the case of your computer and look directly
on the motherboard where it says it's model and type.
I get a yellow error sign in device manager next to the C-Media AC97 Audio device.
C-Media AC97 Audio is from a very long time ago
You most likely didn't install the right drivers for it or OS incompatible drivers.

Go here to download the drivers in one package for 98-me-2k-XP-2003

http://download.cnet.com/C-Media-AC97-A ... 54785.html

But if you are sure you installed the right drivers then :

Check in the bios if onboard hardware is disabled.
Check in the bios for any IRQ conflict.

Do you have an analogue modem pci card with a speaker on it in your computer ?
If so install the drivers for it first and secondly the drivers for your soundcard as
sometimes there is a conflict between them if you install the soundcard drivers first.
I've tried everything from updating from microsoft to using the K lite codec
As for codecs, try to find VistaCodecs_v473.exe
It is the most compatible and least conflict audio and video codec package.

The word vista in it has nothing to do with windows vista, it is just named that way.

Tip :
Before you format a harddisk it's always handy to make a copy of the registry
as you can find literally everything inside of it such as installed drivers and software
or use a driver backup tool such as driver-max, driver-magician or driver-genius.

Greetings
cw

And what would be the purpose of the bot in this case ?
1 post only and not containing external reference to manhood enhancers or similar stuff ?
"Have you tried turning it off and on again ?"

That is probably the point. There are no reason to spam forums if you get deleted directly, if the links comes in post +10 or so it’s more likely to be allowed to stay.

I too speculated about this the other day and came to the conclusion this might be a kind of 'vitality check' to await response first before commencing the spamming.

but who knows, what this is good for :?

I see, it's reasonable. If that can be called reasonable.

how can I see it for next time

Post by codewalker »

Rings: thanks for the notice. I feel a bit dumb right now to waist my post on a bot.
Is there a way to detect a bot for next time ? How do you guys know it was a bot ?
What does such a bot gain to post in this forum anyway ?
Thanks in advance for replying on this

First post in a PB-Forum and it was not an introduction nor a pb-related question.
I don't think, you can be sure, it's bot. Could also be someone, who doesn't know things like "Yahoo answers" exist. But then again, it's highly unlikely, that he found the PB-forums on his search for motherboard/soundcard-problems.

If it's a bot, maybe some site like yahoo answers (or anything of that sort) post the questions on other forums and check for answers.
It's a bit elaborate but the more answers, the higher the chance, one of them is right, or helps to solve the problem. And if a lot of problems are solved on that site, more people visit and the operator makes money...

tomS : your right about first post without introduction. I should have noticed better.

Recently I read an article about spammers now also abusing on-line help desk service.
Someone calls for an on-line helpdesk session to solve a problem and thinks he is
chatting with a computer technician. But in reality it is a spammer who doesn´t install
a remote session tool but malicious software. Makes you wonder sometimes where it
will end.

here's an addendum that I forgot to post earlier:

your posting wasn't for nothing I've read it several times and took out some valuable hints for me :)

Just Google part of the text. ;) Here's almost exactly the same post in another forum:
