Logo/Header advice
Logo/Header advice
I need some advice on a header image for my site that will be for basic gaming tutorials. I have already secured the domain, still deciding on what forums to use, but I am midway through converting over my old IBasic tutorials to support PB and I will be springing for two years of web hosting on Friday.
My problem is I have no artistic talent and I would prefer not to have to purchase an image to use. Does anybody have any ideas of something I could throw together via some free royalty-free images? The site name will be: BASIC Game Dev
I would appreciate any advice or suggestions.

Hello Kuron,
that is not any easy question, as you don't give much hints about the page segmentations or (more important) your taste and aim. Could you upload a testpage to have a look or give some links to sides you like the making of ?
Sorry I have no links to free-picture pages at hand, but searching 'gnu free pictures' I quickly found this page containing several interesting links: http://community.prometheanplanet.com/e ... /3479.aspx
But to be realy save with the property it's best to make it on your own.
e.g. you could open some of your tutorials, cascade them and take a screenshot of the heading area, maybe shape it, change the colors, make it black&white or transform it slighly with a filter (blur, mosaic ...) . Then maybe place it in the background and apply your site name shadowed over it.
greetings ~ Vera
Addendum: a large link collection can be found on: Wikipedia:Public domain image resources

Thank you Ash for the post (which was later removed).
My question was what would look good in the logo/header image for a site that is aimed at tutorials for BASIC game programming? I could use retro styled game graphics, but that would not necessarily convey the BASIC or tutorial message.
Example, if I was making a site aimed at military games, tanks and helicopters would be good things to use in design of the logo/header image.Vera wrote:Hello Kuron,

Diagrams like or screen shots similar to sketches, with screen shots and code samples, flow charts and what the result should be. In other words, the images should convey steps that lead from the beginning to the end. There are more than a few ways possible to convey these ideas.Kuron wrote:My question was what would look good in the logo/header image for a site that is aimed at tutorials for BASIC game programming? Re: Logo/Header advice
My only advise: keep it simple.
Why not a big filled green circle with a big white letter 'K' in it? That's simple enough

Re: Logo/Header advice
Okay, change the circle to a 'radioactive symbol' with a K superimposed on it. Kuron sounds like an exotic element, so why not?
