Sometimes I think the automobile is a prime example of man's ingenuity outpacing his maturity to understand the responsibilities involved.

this video is disturbing :!:
but it shows what power we think to be able to control although we are not

In twenty years driving I luckily only had one accident. Slowly right behind a truck that turned right. When the back of the truck was out of the way a car stood right in front of me. It had come out of that side rode and alread procided fully onto the main street 'in the shadow' of that truck.
I was confronted to drive directly into a human being - eye to eye - no chance to stop or to elude. That really horrified me.
Much luck on all sides - being slow, hitting the car right behind the drivers seat (center console) and all of the energie absorbed by the two cars - noone was physically hurt.

It's good to remember now and again, that we cannot rely on all the luck that accompanies us most of the time, but also take liable care.

I just have to agree, that sums it up well.

I personally travel a lot in my work & have driven I all parts of this world except Australia, often about a 1000 km/week. So far I have only one accident, and that happened due to a bus in front of me in a queue started backing up to give room for a turning truck…
Why? Skill? No, I think mostly just da#n luck!

There are clear differences that I see (in the eye of the beholder maybe…) but people living in extreme weather know how to handle their cars well, big city and people cooperate better and so on. The problems are mostly that you must always try to predict what other people will do; e.g. in inner China people drive like they ride bikes, and meeting a truck going the wrong way in a roundabout is nothing odd at all – it just stupid to ‘ride’ the longer way all around the outside, no? Being a little paranoid when watching the traffic will likely increase your chance of getting home in one piece, and that is in the end more important than making that meeting or whatever is up for the day!

The old true’s still hold up here even if boring; just try to start in time to avoid stress, avoid rush-hours (funny name for 2 blocks/h) & newer drive intoxicated no matter what the local limits are!
The best preparation for tomorrow is doing your best today.
