IDE - always hide error log (?)

if the option "always hide error log (..)" is checked i can't make the log visible by my shortcut (F11) again. it really 'always' hides. actually i thought it would hide the log when loading the source (ignoring the source's setting), but can be made visible again if needed. wouldn't that be more logical?
